Where Assassin's Creed may have started to feel stale after Assassin's Creed 3, Black Flag throws caution to the wind, and delivers a swashbuckling adventure without parallel. Arguably one of my favourite games of 2013, and I gladly recommend it to any fellow pirate fans.

Exceptional graphics, but not too sure on the actual game play juat yet, particularly in multi player mode.

Having played all Assassin’s Creed titles since the original, (with the original Assassin’s Creed still being one of my all-time favourites) and having endured the rather mediocre effort of ACIII, I was a little worried about the future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. That was until I got my hands on Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. And man, what a game! In a definite return to form, Ubisoft have crafted one of the most stand-out games of 2013 (and potentially one of the best Assassin’s Creed titles ever).
Following the escapades of Edward Kenway (the grandfather of the ACIII protagonist, Connor), you have to try and become the greatest (or is that, infamous?) pirate the Caribbean has ever seen. Due to this, your adventure takes place on both land and sea and, during the course of the game, you will Captain your own ship and take on the high seas in combat that feels very familiar if you’ve played ACIII, but is most definitely more refined (and, more fun!). Due to the nature of, well, being a pirate, Edward can be a very hard character to like. But it does all lead back to the slogan the ACIV marketing material embraces – “How far would you go for the ones you love?” Without spoiling too much, Edward is a pirate for more than money… But as the story unfolds, it does raise the question of whether or not you could ever go back to a normal life after partaking in the things he does.
Having played this game on both current and next-gen tech, I can safely say that ACIV is at its best on next-gen (or is that new-gen?). The PS4 version is sublime – the graphics are crystal clear, with amazing particle affects and lighting. And it’s the attention to detail / the little things, like having the plants react to you moving through them or leaving behind your footprints in a puddle of mud, that simply add to that feeling of immersion. The controls are tight and comfortable, the layout easy to use (feeling quite natural) and this all contributes to a feeling of being able to let you pirate for countless hours without any discomfort.
The only negative I have to say is that the old AC ‘bugs’ are still present and can make an appearance from time to time (like ‘becoming one’ with a wall you’re trying to climb or jumping off a ledge to your death, instead of the branch in the tree right in front of you). However, these in no way affect your enjoyment of the game as a whole.
All of this combines to make ACIV one of the finest Assassin’s Creed titles yet, and a worthy contender for Game of the Year 2013. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a great adventure.

Just bought this from Takealot last wednesday, got it by the next day. Excellent service. The game is awesome so far!
The world map is huge and the atmosphere of the game is quite immersive.
The graphics for 2015 is bit backdated but still above average.
Gameplay is great with a few glitches but nothing major.
For the price its well worth it.
