The story arc of Battlestar Galactica is set in a distant star system, where a civilization of humans live on a series of planets known as the Twelve Colonies. In the past, the Colonies had been at war with a cybernetic race of their own creation, known as the Cylons. With the unwitting help of a human named Gaius Baltar, the Cylons launch a sudden sneak attack on the Colonies, laying waste to the planets and devastating their populations. Out of a population numbering in the billions, only approximately 50,000 humans survive, most of whom were aboard civilian ships that avoided destruction. Of all the Colonial Fleet, the eponymous Battlestar Galactica appears to be the only military capital ship that survived the attack. Under the leadership of Colonial Fleet officer Commander William "Bill" Adama (Olmos) and President Laura Roslin (McDonnell), the Galactica and its crew take up the task of leading the small fugitive fleet of survivors into space in search of a fabled refuge known as Earth.

An amazing retelling of the original Battlestar Galactica series!
There is still reference to the original in this pilot, but the writers have done a good job of twisting some of the original concepts around into something new, and yet still familiar. Starbuck's a woman! The Cylons can take human form! There's so much to keep you at the edge of your seat!
This is an awesome pre-telling of the exodus of the twelve colonies. This is certainly an excellent mini-series, far outdoing the Star Trek series, and - dare I say it - measuring up in many ways to the Star Wars legacy, or even surpassing it (I'd like to think of it as building upon the legacy of Star Wars).
We've got a great pilot with stackloads of drama and twists and turns. The special effects are great, and the depth of the plot and characters is outstanding. The writers have done a great job, and I can't stress that enough.
The series follows on with a great touch by referring back to previous episodes [even the pilot], and you definately get the sense of hopelessness felt by the lost survivors. You count down the number of remaining Vipers, combat pilots, and human colonists. You share the sense of anguish as yet another pilot is killed, and you also share the shock along with the members of the Galactica when yet another member of the fleet is identified as a Cylon agent.
An all-time favourite, and an amazing program! You won't regret this purchase!

This is the ultimate teaser for a sience fiction freak. If you liked the old 1978 series you'll enjoy this one.The story line is the about the same but this series concentrates more on the interaction between the people and less on the battle scenes( which are fabulous but maby a little bit to short). If you buy the mini series you'll have to budget for the following seasons also.

Started watching the TV Series on ActionX, saw seasons 1 and 2 but never the miniseries. This is an absolute work of art, and sets the stage up beautifully for the TV Series.
My only complaint about this DVD is the lack of extra features. While the documentary was good, it wasn't enough and it leaves you wanting more.
Overall this is an excellent DVD and well worth it!
