Great product. Really helps with correct heat distribution, heat control and reduces flare ups. Takes a while to heat up but once going they keep their heat. I placed mine on top of an old stainless steel grid placed on top of my burner guard covers leaving a gap of 2cm between them and the BBQ grid. There are enough bricks in a box to cover 1/3rd of a 4 burner BBQ which is one BBQ grid.
It's a different way of cooking your meat on a BBQ and my first attempt was very successful.
Great for difficult to cook meats like chicken. Came out perfect without having to precook the meat. No drying out of smaller pieces either. My kalahari kreef came out perfect with the chicken perfectly cooked and the outside bacon still soft.
Did some steak and I found these are perfect for medium to medium well steak. They won't brown / sear your steaks though so had to get some flames going to do that.
They helped to control flare ups from fatty meats like wors, bacon rollies and chicken(with skin) as the fat rolls off them to under the briquettes. These act as a barrier between the flames from the fat on the guards and the meat.
