You have to change the default option for the partition to boot in Mac only, by changing it to GUID (instead of dual-boot). This allows the partition to be erased/formatted correctly.

I absolutely love this product. I have been using it for 6 months now, and haven't experienced any problems whatsoever. Comes at a great price, silent, reliable ,cool and obviously massive storage capacity. Completely compatible and easily manageable within MS Windows 7, XP and Vista. Comes with own software for backup, syncing and encryption. Good buy!

Was deciding between this one and the Mac Desktop version with FW800. Eventually decided it was worth the R600+. This drive comes with windows software most people would probably just delete anyways. For the Mac users out there you'll need to tweek things a bit in Diskutility to get format this drive to mac format. Innitially it gave error messages till I checked the prob out on google. It's flying now. Looks wise, this little drive scores big time. i refer the detachable foot. It allows you to stack the drive in needs be. I've got an older black 500gb version with fixed foot. If anyone want to swop, gimme a call! :). All in all a descent and well-priced drive, for users who need lots of space. Just a point on materials - it isn't aluminum, just silver coloured. However, the silver colour is exactly the same as the pre-unibody makbook pro's. That little icon you'll see on the website is a gross aproximation of how this drive looks. Check seagate.com out instead. Performance-wise... I miss the FW800, but you pays your monies and accepts what you get I suppose.

-1 for the first drive I returned which stopped working
-3 for the second drive I returned which stopped working
-1 for no power button

Drive looks good and gives the mass storage you paid for. Speed is decent and Linux interfacing is hassle-free.

I'm a fan of Seagate drives (currently using 2 internal Seagate HDDs) but the problems I've had with these external drives have made me sceptic. Maybe I've just been unlucky with the two I've got, but I'd advise people to think before purchasing. I, for one, will not purchase another one of these drives.

Me and 3 of my friends each bought one of these but the previous look (the black and orange one's) and all 4 of them stopped working after about 3 to 7 months, I opened mine up and placed the HDD in my computer and it works perfect! Only the power supple that went! Hope they fixed it with these new look one's!

I gave it a 7 because of -1 for crappy plastic casing and -1 for not having a switch so I can switch it off manually. the software works okay and there really aren't many things to complain about. you want 1TB of storage and that is what you get.
