Very nice HDD. It's silent, fast and the coolest HDD i have in my system. Currently @ 26c. Max speed i get from testing the drive is 124MB/s, they advertise 160MB/s here but it should be 125MB/s. No probs so far... Definitely recommend this drive.

The only issue is that I had to update the firmware that could've caused a crash. Otherwise, it works great

Worst Hard Drive ever. Two of mine that I bought a year ago just failed, as in 10 minutes ago. That is why I am writing this review. I have had 3 different models fail on me. 2 of them I bought last year in USA and the one I bought earlier this year failed 2 weeks after purchase. They were different models and now I'm waiting for my last one to fail, seeing as though it is only a matter of time. I would advise anyone to stay away from these, I know what I'm talking about. Seagate shouldn't continue this Electronic Arts streak (releasing any crap cause they know it will sell)

Out of the three that I own (bought at the same time), one just had a head crash this weekend. Glad my data is backed up!

Brilliant service as always, the drive runs cool, quiet and very fast. All in all, I'm very satisfied!

Had mine for about 2 months now and so far so good, no failures yet (touch wood). I read somewhere that the firmware issue that caused these drives to fail was resolved in later manufactured batches, so I'm really hoping I don't have any problems.
I haven't done any comparative benchmarks, but I can tell you by way of anecdotal observation that this drive is far quicker than the other two drives (320gig, 200gig) in my pc. Load times of games off this drive definitely feel shorter than my other two. Additionally, I've found it to be very very quiet, far quieter than my other two, which is fantastic for watching movies and listening to music in particular!
If everything continues smoothly, at this price I'd definitely consider buying an additional one. For buyers considering this drive, I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Im quite happy with this hard drive. Loads of storage space fast transfer rate

This is a great drive, and very fast. Just keep the drive in the correct position and cool and it will last a few years. Gamers should love this drive as troughput are out of this world. At less than 82c per Gig that's a steal. Back in the early 90's you couldn't even buy a 360kb floppy disk for 82c.

This thing was fine until I moved it higher up in the 3.5" slots. For some reason it makes seek, read and write noises during general operation that aren't loud enough to worry you but enough to annoy sometimes. I wouldn't recommend this drive. I've read way too much about this drive failing early(some after days some weeks and some six months). Nice price though, and very cool running. The packaging was a little dodgy though..just an anti-static bag and plain brown cardboard pieces wrapped around it.

the 11th gen is problematic, but the 12th gen has no issues and runs very well, using it for 2months now and im very happy with the product.

I don't agree with the previous comment at all. I have been an extensive user of Seagate Barracuda's for years now and I never experienced one failure. They are fast, silent and reliable. I highly recommend them. My only failures so far, were with Western Digitals.

I bought 2, was skeptical to order them and have them freighted to me, but were packed in proper shipping box with both drives very secure. I ran them for 3 days to make sure they don't fail, then copied my stuff to them (without deleting from smaller drives)
I did a software upgrade check and ONLY the 7200.11 were firmware problematic. All you need to do is put the serial numbers in and Seagate will comeback and say if an upgrade is required. The 7200.12 are ALL fine and great drives.
A very good buy

Yup, mine failed as well, 2 weeks ago. I thought Seagate was supposed to be the best?

Hope it works a well as it external brother

Luckily we all know not to trust reviews by people who have multiple drive failures and don't believe that there is an environmental or user reason for the failures. Took off a point for not printing the jumper setting for SATA150 on the casing. If your bios doesn't recognize the drive, check to see if your motherboard supports SATA II/300 - If not you'll need the jumper. See Seagate site for diagram.

8 BECAUSE GREENPOWER IS AROUND. There is nothing wrong with seagate in general. A batch was released into the world that is prone to failure due to firmware fault, that is rectified with a firmware upgrade (you should keep that up to date at all times, its there for a reason). Keep your hard drives cool, heat is a killer. Install the hhd the right way around. Installing it up side down or side ways shorten the drive life.

This is a great drive. A bit loud during random access, but its great seeing as i listen 2 loud music anyway, which silences the hdd noise.

This hard drive is definitly my best bought ever. Transfer rate is fast and so far I had no trouble with the hard drive. I trust this hard drive with my life, because I backed up all my data to this hard drive... Hopefully it dont fail in a month's time.
