I'm a huge fan of the Far Cry series – Far Cry 3 being my favourite game of all time! However, Far Cry Primal can get a little tedious after a while. I should point out at this point that I haven't finished it yet, I'm about 15 hours in. A lot of people have been saying that Primal is just a reskin of Far Cry 4, and their not wrong really. Also, the main story line is pretty sparse. I've spent most of my game time on side missions in order to upgrade my weapons and it does get a little samey after a while.
Having said that, I still get a fair amount of enjoyment out of it. While we're used to the bow and arrow mechanism from previous Far Cry's, the spear is an inspired weapon. It gives a nice meaty thunk when it hits it's target – very satisfying! And very deadly...at least once you've upgraded it appropriately. As far as I can see, Far Cry Primal is a game of side missions. Repetitive? Yes. Graphics/scenery? Amazing. Story? Not great. All of this should lead to a score of 2 stars or less. But for reasons I can't quite fathom, I'm still enjoying the game play. Enjoying the lack of guns for a change. Enjoying my weird attachment to the animals I tame. Enjoying the hunting and gathering aspect of survival.
If you've played any of the Far Cry series before, you may be in for some disappointment. But not too much.

Perfect game, feels right, and to move away from the whole shooter theme is really refreshing.
