Supplier out of stock

Of course you want to know — When do I get it?

We strive at all times to get it to you sooner but here are some indications:

If we say In Stock, we dispatch same day (if ordered before 14:00 on a working day) and depending on where you stay it will be with you the next working day (Main Centres) or the next working day after that (Regional Areas). If you are in a remote area it may take an additional working day (a day longer than Regional).

If we say In Stock (You can also collect in cpt), the stock is available from our Cape Town warehouse and you can collect on the same working day if your payment has been authorised and you collect before 5pm.

If we say dispatched between X and Y days then it takes X to Y days to receive from a supplier and it will then be with you within a working day after dispatched (Main Centres) or the working day after that (Regional Areas). If you are in a remote area it may take an additional working day (a day longer than Regional Areas).

Imports are a best effort service, we strive to get it to you as soon as possible within the guidelines above but it's not always within our complete control so if something goes wrong we will let you know.

And then there's a Friday, sigh... Try order early on a Friday, we can then try our best to get it to you on the same day (Main centres), otherwise we will have to get it to you during the next week.

If this is all too confusing, call us on 0861 222 989 or send an e-mail to info@takealot.com. One of our friendly employees will get back to you pronto.

Description

In Prototype players engage in 'Deceive or Destroy' gameplay. This allows gamers the choice to either blend in with the population and covertly progress through the story, or fully unleash Alex’s powers, and move through New York City like a walking slaughterhouse, taking control of military vehicles, and causing destruction at every turn.

Although Alex is literally strong enough to fling people and large objects around easily, his most intriguing power is his ability to 'consume' people. In doing this he acquires their memories, abilities, and their appearance. New memories help him to solve the mystery of how he got the way he is, while new appearances allow him to shape-shift into new useful forms at will and abilities allow him to manoeuvre in parts of the game requiring specific skills in specific situations. In addition, Alex's consumption of people also facilitates his ability to transform his physical body and manipulate his senses. Most weapons acquired in this way are outgrowths from his appendages like exaggerated blades, shields, whips and claws used for brutal close combat, but consumption also allows for powerful abilities like thermal vision, which provides for vision through smoke and obstacles, as well as 'infected vision' with which Alex can detect hotspots of viral infection throughout the city.

Features:

  • Fast and Deadly Combat - Shape-shift your body to the situation at hand ... from claws to blades to hammers to whips, as you choose the right weapon for the situation. Change to shield or armour for defence or use advanced sensory powers (thermal vision, infected vision) to track your enemies.
  • Over-the-top Locomotion - Seamlessly and fluidly bound from building to building, run up walls, bounce off cars and everything in your path. Adaptive parkour lets you move freely through the open-world environments of New York City.
  • Unique Disguising Abilities - Consume anyone at anytime, take on their appearance and assume their memories and special abilities.
  • Deep Conspiracy Driven Storyline - Wake up with no memory of the past ... just mysterious powers and a link to a town in Idaho. Delve into the mysteries of your origin, the true nature of your power and your part in a conspiracy 40 years in the making.
  • Parkour Inspired In-game Movement - Alex Mercer's movements are inspired by Parkour, a mostly urban activity bordering on both art and martial arts that aims at moving the human body from one point to another as smoothly, efficiently and quickly as possible. Recent examples of it gained worldwide attention in chase scenes in the 2007 film "Casino Royale."
  • Xbox LIVE Achievements - Collect a wealth of Xbox LIVE achievements and build your gamer score as you play.

Prototype - Classic

Product Reviews (1)

Charl, South Africa. 20 June 2009

Under the classic Godzilla monster movie fanbase there is a popular saying that goes: “I am Godzilla you are Japan” and this hold very true for Prototype, you Alex Mercer would be Godzilla while Japan would be New York city. And from the start Prototype is not bashful and throws you strait into the action which seems to be in the middle of central park with the military throwing everything at you that includes tanks, helicopters and RPG wielding special ops forces all while trying to fend off a mysterious outbreak. You aren’t given much and you aren’t told much at the start, you are given a choice fight or die while wondering what the hell is going on.

The victim of a military experiment gone horribly wrong, Mercer’s quest is to find the people responsible for unleashing a viral outbreak on New York and visit unholy vengeance upon them. Alex Mercer must be in my opinion one of the most amoral characters ever created in a video game, but that also means he is up against some very stiff competition Infamous and Bioshock to name but a few. But instead of all the moral questions that get given to you Prototype takes a different route and dumps all those in the trash can. To say that Mercer values human life would be a overstatement, he is flat out ruthless and during the first couple of hours you will cut through thousands of soldiers, mutants and innocent bystanders.

You would think that you would not be able to connect with a character like Mercer because of this, but it is exactly the opposite his flaws and the fact that he is a border line sociopath makes him only more interesting as a character. Now normally this would not work in a game but due to the over the top violence and the totally over the top absurd action makes Mercer as a charachter become more believable. Here you aren’t faced with any moral dilemmas the only question that is left to you as the player is to find out who did this to you and making them pay while causing destruction a epic scale. Add to this a post apocalyptic feel and atmosphere combined with a viral outbreak sets the tone nicely for the story.

The graphics in Prototype is nothing to write home about but what it excels in is portraying huge amounts of carnage and destruction without slowing down or dropping frames. Even when you have hundreds of civilians running around the streets, with just as many cars and enemies, the draw distance remains excellent and the frame rate good. My only gripe would be how the city of New York has been animated, it can be bland at times and tends to be rinse and repeat affair with no real big changes of scenery during the game. But that can be forgiven in due part that the whole city has been turned into a perpetual war zone, and you don’t really look at it while causing mayhem and destruction.

The control system takes some getting used to but after about 30 minutes you will be jumping from building to building like a pro and look good doing it, this accidentally is also the most fun part about the game the parkour style movement from objective to objective. This makes you very fast and very nimble and very hard to hit once you get going and will get you out of those tight spots, and yes Mercer is by no means immune to damage especial when faced by a couple of tanks or helicopters. But by hitting and running the game developers encourages you to think of different tactics and methods (sneaking and camouflage) of taking on the different enemies in the game, and not just steam rolling over everything.

The voice acting and sound affect are above par I especially like the voice acting of Alex Mercer, the way he projects his voice it always gives you an good idea what emotions he is experiencing whether it is being angry or frustrated. So it never feels like he is just a voice actor speaking into a microphone, using real life images during the memory recovery sequences was also a really nice touch I like and deviates from the norm of pre-rendered scenes. If you enjoy sandbox games and if you enjoy wreaking havoc on an epic scale and you don’t mind some iffy controls at times and the dull scenery then I would definitely recommend giving Prototype a try you wont be disappointed.
