In stock (You can also collect in CPT)

Of course you want to know — When do I get it?

We strive at all times to get it to you sooner but here are some indications:

If we say In Stock, we dispatch same day (if ordered before 14:00 on a working day) and depending on where you stay it will be with you the next working day (Main Centres) or the next working day after that (Regional Areas). If you are in a remote area it may take an additional working day (a day longer than Regional).

If we say In Stock (You can also collect in cpt), the stock is available from our Cape Town warehouse and you can collect on the same working day if your payment has been authorised and you collect before 5pm.

If we say dispatched between X and Y days then it takes X to Y days to receive from a supplier and it will then be with you within a working day after dispatched (Main Centres) or the working day after that (Regional Areas). If you are in a remote area it may take an additional working day (a day longer than Regional Areas).

Imports are a best effort service, we strive to get it to you as soon as possible within the guidelines above but it's not always within our complete control so if something goes wrong we will let you know.

And then there's a Friday, sigh... Try order early on a Friday, we can then try our best to get it to you on the same day (Main centres), otherwise we will have to get it to you during the next week.

If this is all too confusing, call us on 0861 222 989 or send an e-mail to info@takealot.com. One of our friendly employees will get back to you pronto.

Description

Building on the Call of Duty 4 engine, Call of Duty: World at War thrusts players into the ruthless and gritty chaos of WWII combat like never been before, and challenges them to band together to survive the most harrowing and climactic battles of WWII that led to the demise of the Axis powers on the European and South Pacific fronts. The title re-defines WWII games by offering an uncensored experience with unique enemies and combat variety, including Kamikaze fighters, ambush attacks, Banzai charges and cunning cover tactics, as well as explosive on-screen action through all new cooperative gameplay.

Features:
  • Call of Duty 4 Technology Built using the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare engine, Call of Duty: World at War utilizes a bedrock of technology that delivers jaw-dropping visuals, while empowering players to employ elements like fire to affect the dynamics of the battlefield. Players that attempt to harness the power of new weapons, like the flamethrower, will find themselves capable of burning away environmental elements that give cover to a camouflaged enemy, leaving a charred battlefield and their foes in their wake.
  • Coordinated Assault and Support For the first time in the franchise, Call of Duty: World at War introduces co-op, bringing fresh meaning to the No One Fights Alone mantra. Call of Duty: World at War co-op features up to four-players online, or two-player local split-screen, allowing gamers to experience harrowing single-player missions together for greater camaraderie and tactical execution. The title also incorporates traditional multiplayer components such as challenges, rankings and online stats into the co-op campaign for deeper re-playability and advanced gameplay..
  • New Theaters of Operation Players fight as U.S. Marines and Russian soldiers facing enemies some new to the Call of Duty franchise that employ lethal new tactics and know no fear, no mercy, nor the rules of war. Epic conflicts are fought on multiple fronts, playing through the climactic battles of WWII in the grittiest, most chaotic and cinematically intense experience to date.
  • Innovative Multiplayer Multiplayer builds from the success of Call of Duty delivering a persistent online experience for more squad based interaction. New development with party systems allows an intimacy with squad based combat never before seen in Call of Duty. Combined infantry and vehicle missions add a new dimension to the online warfare and offers more PERK abilities.
  • Cinematic Quality Graphics and Sound Treyarchs award-winning sound department returns with effects that add to the already immersive cinematic intensity of the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare game engine.

If you have played COD2 then the single player will be nothing new and you'll be bored after 10 minutes. The multiplayer is very buggy and it's difficult to connect to online servers (requires authentication with international servers). Hopefully it will be patched. Game play is the same as COD4, it just has a different skin.

I expected alot more from the sounds and graphics.

COD4 was innovative and addictive. COD5 feels tired.

While I did not get in the gaming time I would have liked over the weekend, I did get in a quick half hour session last night before bedtime.

Call of Duty: World at War
PcBg Mini Review

Intro

What a fantastic intro! The cut scenes come from real WWII footage and it helps create a real apocolyptic atmosphere.

You launch into the game as a PoW and you're about to be killed when a rescue team arrives. You must then fight your way out of the detention camp.

Graphics

The graphics are fantastic...really really good. From the facial detail to the scenery, the standard is really high. The special effects from being dizzy or disorientated are really well done too.

Something new to me is the ambush tactics in the game. All silent, creeping through a wetland ... when WHAM! Flashbang and bamboo-covered Japanese soldiers pop up all over.

The Quicksave functionality seems to be gone and I had to finish an objective for the game to save a checkpoint. I am also playing on Hardest (one below Insane) and well yeah, the enemies are damn hard to beat!

COD2 Weapons Revisited

I picked up the M1 Garand very early in the game and revelled in the memories of COD2 ownage. It still has that same lock 'n load "ping" to it. Another new feature is being able to laser paint the horizon (or any nearby target) and call in a missile strike! Booya!

The aiming mechanism is back to "normal" after the weirdness that was Far Cry 2 (cockeyed aiming). Body shot or head shot, if you aim square you will hit your mark...but if you don't dive for cover immediately, expect to be riddled with enemy bullets!!

Game Performance

The frame rate performance is ver acceptable and I sustained 40-50fps on the highest detail at 1680x1050 with 2xAA and mid-range Aniso. After experiencing a lockup though, I turned AA off and turned on Vertical Sync and had no problems after. The game supports Dual GPU's so that's turned on in the Graphics menu.

Final Impressions

So far I'm very impressed and looking forward to clocking in many hours...hopefully this week still!

I somehow expected a bit more, but this is still avery good game.
There are some interesting surprises and the online play on the SAIX and I-Game South African servers is loads of fun.
The Co-Op missions is a blast!!!!
There is no major advances from COD Modern Warfare and in some ways I enjoyed Modern Warfare more. I still feel though that World at War was money well spent.

francios pruis

Another brilliant game from activison. The game play is so realistic the only difference is you know you are save at home behind your PC. I must say I know now how it must feel to be in a war situation fighting the enemy head on. My utmost respect and condolences to all the people who fought in WWII. Now today I understand why my grandfather never talked about WWII.

What were they thinking ? Biggest let down Ive ever experienced.

Graphics etc. is not too bad...the only major problem r connecting to the conecting to local servers and tons of balance issues with the MP. The dogs are pretty anoying...I mean the choppers in COD4 was pretty easy...every1 shot at it and boom, owned. But the dogs...they are truly and utterly anoying...unless you have them :P...but I am sure patches will sort this out.
The first player was fun I have to admit, just incredibly short. With a game that has such a small SP...I would expect the MP to have been better thought out. But alas, we must wait for the patches :)
But I still enjoyed the game though.
