I'm a total Command and Conquer junkie, having played every game of the series since it first came out in the early 1990s. The Red Alert franchise was always my favourite, though, so naturally I made sure my Collectors Edition copy of Red Alert 3 was pre-ordered!
You can read proper reviews all over the net so I'll just give you a few of my thoughts on the game and its overall presentation.
1) Packaging: The steel book packaging of the collector's edition is STUNNING and worth the extra money on its own. The whole thing is sleeved within a hard plastic sleeve with screenshots and other art printed on it. The packaging of this game easily rivals the packaging of my Razer products, which I've always considered to be the best of the best in terms of game hardware packaging.
2) Graphics: For once, the screenshots are remarkably close to the real product. I'm able to run the game on full settings and it is really a treat for the eyes. The water is especially enjoyable, and wait till you see the sunken ships dotted around most maps. Gorgeous!
3) Playability: Fans of the RTS genre, and especially those with experience in the Command and Conquer franchise should feel right at home with the game mechanics in RA3. Of particular note is that EA has FINALLY introduced right-click commands, which makes much more sense as most other games use right-click move commands. If you're a die-hard old-school C+C fan though then the option to switch to left-click commands does exist. For anyone unfamiliar with RTS games, the included tutorials make learning the basics of the game a cinch, but there's no doubt that only practice can teach the real intricacies and nuances of playing this game the way it should be.
4) Sound: Crystal clear, and if you played RA2, you'll LOVE hearing the re-introduction of the classic 'Hell March' soundtrack, performed in game by 'From First to Last', a hardcore metal band from USA.
5) General thoughts: The collector's edition is well worth the money for the steel book packaging alone. However you'll also get a poster of all the beautiful women included in the game, plus a DVD of bonus content including video outtakes/bloopers, a video montage of the game's babes, and some other featurettes including an extended strategy discussion by some of the game's developers. The DVD is mostly pretty forgettable but it's nice to have. Another easter egg you won't read about until you own the game is that collectors edition owners are able to download an additional map-pack for the game once it is installed, by using a special code included in the packaging. Pretty cool!
All in all, I highly recommend the collector's edition. For only R100 or so more, you're getting great value for money in a package you won't easily lose.

This is a really cool game. It's just plain fun to play. You have way out wacky machines at your disposal, in a beautiful colourful world.
This game works great over a LAN. You can't officially play the campaigns co-op over a LAN, but there is a mod that fixes this.
The really cool thing about this game is that all your units are versatile. This was a major problem in C&C 3: Tib Wars, where a unit has only one function. The effect of this is huge rushes in multiplayer, where the player who builds up his force the fastest, wins.
This is not strategy at all and since they were going for the whole CnC as a sport thing, that failed. It just wasn't deep enough. Red Alert 3 on the other hand is amazingly well balanced. You can't just go in with one unit, because chances are, another form of the enemy's units will totally destroy your whole rush. This is what creates depth. The pace is also a bit slower, which makes more room for strategy.
The campaigns are a bit straight forward, without much story, but the chicks are REALLY hot. It's really something to see guys! Makes the campaigns worth playing. There are some interesting missions too, but nothing ground breaking.
So in conclusion, although I think more could have been done with the campaign, this is truly an awesome game. Wonderfully fun to play, if your just a casual gamer, or a hard-core strategist. Try this one out, it's the best strategy game I've played in a long time and now I only wait to see how Starcraft 2 stacks up.
ps. Yes, there's DRM, it sucks, get over it.
