Winner of 2010 “Best Jazz” SAMA for his debut solo album “Free at First”. Adam Glasser comes with a remarkable pedigree and some amazing experience! Please do read on around this impressive individual: Son of Stanley 'Spike' Glasser, who was musical director of ‘King Kong’, Adam was exposed and fell in love with quality SA jazz at a tender age. Hanging at Dorkay House in the ‘70’s with a myriad of jazz legends – Adam at this time also freelanced with Martha Reeves and Jimmy Witherspoon. Introduced to Dudu Pukwana by bassist Ernest Mothle, Adam joined Zila in 1985 where he met Lucky Ranku and long time vocalist and collaborator Pinise Saul. The group toured Spain, Italy and Belgium. It was Dudu who first recorded Adam’s composition ‘August One’ - (now on the syllabus of the Associated Board of Royal Schools Music) - & featured on the album Zila '86. In 1990 Adam became pianist and musical director for the Manhattan Brothers. This led to a 16 year collaboration and several gigs and albums… Through the 1990's Adam increasingly specialized in the rarely played chromatic harmonica. This led to albums, films, tv sessions and deputizing for Stevie Wonder. Adam has also performed and recorded with the likes of Sting, the Eurythmics, Toots Thielemans, Incognito, Chaka Kahn as well as the London Philharmonic/ BBC Symphony and the Welsh National Opera Orchestras. Adam Glasser with his second solo offering presents a mixture of straight ahead jazz, covers of South African jazz hits, as well as original compositions - all driven by Adam's distinctive chromatic harmonica and amazing production expertise. This album features an all star SA jazz cast including: Fana Zulu (bass); Basi Mahlasela (perc); Kaya Mhlangu (sax); Sydney Mavundla (trumpet); Rob Watson (drums); David Serame (vox) – to name a few Long time friend and collaborator Mandla Baloyi is working in partnership with Sheer Sound to promote this artist and album. Adam will be in South Africa at the end of October to perform some events (see below gig flyer), and look to interviews and features (which with a pedigree and history such as his will be a shoo in) across the media spectrum. More detail around promotions related to the upcoming events and album release will be detailed shortly.
