It's time to dig into Kratos's past, as God of War Collection: Volume 2 brings two PSP classics to the PS3 in 3D glory, Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta. God of War: Chains of Olympus fills in some of the details of what Kratos did between his unfortunate family-killing incident and Ares' attack on Athens which was chronicled in the first God of War game. During those long years, Kratos served the Gods of Olympus as their personal warrior. He roamed the lands and seaways of the world and put things right, at least 'right' according to the wishes of the Gods. Kratos agreed to work for the Gods in return for having his crimes forgiven and his memories removed. He hoped this would stop the nightmares that reminded him of killing his family. Chains of Olympus follows the God of War template very closely. Kratos is, of course, armed with his signature weapons: the Blades of Chaos; and most of the combos you will have practised in the PS2 games will also work here. Chains of Olympus is an incredible technical achievement. The PS2 games were exceptional, making full use of the hardware, looking great and playing extremely well. Here we have a very similar game squeezed onto the PSP with the only concessions to the format being a reduced playing time and slightly altered controls. Then we've got Ghost of Sparta. Set after the events of God of War, Ghost of Sparta sees our favourite Greek demigod suffering with his seemingly eternal curse. He's haunted by visions of his mortal past, and decides to go on a journey to seek the origins of his past, his tattoo, his scar, the death of his family, basically everything really. Unfortunately for Kratos, and fortunately for the rest of us, this isn't exactly going to be an uneventful journey. There's going to be plenty of enemies that will try to stop you finding the answers you need, and you have to cut them down if you want to uncover the truth. Luckily, with the deadly Blades of Chaos, Kratos is well-tooled to take care of any foes that stand in his way. Kratos will not only have the Blades of Chaos on his side as you play through Ghost of Sparta, the combat junkie will be able to learn some complex new moves and discover brand new weapons that can maim and destroy his foes with relative ease. It's all done with a graphical competence that will make you cower in fear. Get ready to take on a whole new world of mythological grudges!
