Based on the romantic novel by Dodie Smith (author of '101 Dalmatians'), this coming-of-age drama follows 17-year-old Cassandra (Romola Garai) and her eccentric family as they struggle to survive in a draughty and decrepit castle. Cassandra's father (played by Bill Nighy) is the author of a brilliant literary work published more than ten years ago. But he is now crippled by writer's block, and his inability to put pen to paper has left himself and his family on the verge of destitution. There is little that Cassandra or her beautiful older sister, Rose (Rose Byrne), can do but put up with the situation, and their Bohemian stepmother Topaz (Tara Fitzgerald) is little help. Salvation comes in the form of American brothers Simon (Henry Thomas) and Neil (Marc Blucas), who slowly become romantically entangled with the sisters.

I bought this DVD at random but it turns out to be an excellent movie with a brilliant story. Apparently the book was a prescribed reading book some UK grammar schools, but their is nothing scholar about the movie. Personally I am more of a comedy/action viewer but this is a movie from a different genre that I highly recommend.
