Terminator 3 : Rise of the Machines

Terminator 3 : Rise of the Machines is probably the most kick ass action movie I�ve seen all year. In fact make that the last couple of years. T3 is totally unapologetic and uncompromising in the on-screen mayhem caused as T-850 Terminator (Schwarzenegger) and the new model T-X (Kristanna Loken) as they battle each other to determine the future of mankind.

Although the movie has a relatively short running time of 1 hour 49 minutes, almost every minute of screen time is spent on depicting the non-stop carnage between the two robots from the future.

The story is somewhat reminiscent of the plot of T2, but with enough twist and turns setting up a T4 perfectly. Hopefully T3 is successful enough to justify the costs of another Terminator movie.

Nick Stahl�s who takes over Edward Furlong�s role as John Connor, the leader of human resistance against the machines, play his part very well, as does Claire Dane�s as Kate Brewster, who fate becomes entwined with Connor�s. Fortunately Kate Brewster is no shrinking violet, and in one telling scene Connor tells Kate, that she reminds him of his mother. High praise indeed.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is of course one of the main reasons for the Terminator movies success, and despite being in his 50�s now, still has a body most of us will never have. Kristanna Loken of course, wisely cast as a female Terminatrix is also very easy on the eyes it must be said. What�s more her beauty makes her ruthlessness even more shocking as she goes with machine like efficiency about her programmed task.

When you walk out of T3 you will be buzzing from the adrenaline rush, as for once a movie sequel delivers so much high voltage action, you will be dying to watch it again. T3 on DVD will be a must own item to have once it comes out later in 2003.

Director Jonathan Mostow who also made the excellent WW II submarine movie, U-571, has stepped up to high standard�s set by James Cameron�s previous two Terminator movies, and managed to deliver big time. T3 is a must see for action junkies and is for once a non-disappointing sequel.

I'll write this as a Terminator fan. The other reviews pretty much sum up the high points of the movie, it really is enjoyable and revives a respected franchise. I would have given this 9/10 but the THREE writers involved with T3's script overlooked the whole timeline and ended up contradicting the time between T2 and T3. I just wish that more effort would've been put into details like John Connor's age in T2 or Sarah Connor's date of birth. That is all I can honestly criticise about the film itself. The actors play their roles perfectly and the visual effects are seamless. Since T4 IS on the cards, I am eagerly awaiting the conclusion (?) to this story I've grown up with, a story that has inspired many clones and overrated blockbusters (ie The Matrix).

Governor, oops I mean actor -- got a little ahead of myself there -- Arnold
Schwarzenegger is back in his signature role as The Terminator in TERMINATOR
3: RISE OF THE MACHINES, one of the few blockbusters this summer that is
more than worth the money spent on its production. And, unlike the
disappointing HULK, T3 is a serious action film that's also both funny and
fun. When you leave the theater, you'll be pumped full of adrenaline
without a hint of the buyer's remorse that you've felt so often this summer.
Arnold may be in his mid-fifties, but he's got a body that any
twenty-year-old would kill for.

In something of a d�j� vu plot, a T-850 Terminator (Schwarzenegger) is sent
to retrieve John Connor (Nick Stahl) and Kate Brewster (Claire Danes), who
are destined to lead the Resistance in the future, as mankind fights one
last cataclysmic battle against the machines who rule the earth. Sexy,
confident and long-legged Kristanna Loken plays a T-X or Terminatrix, a more
advanced terminator sent to thwart the Terminator's mission and kill
humanity's salvation in Connor and Brewster. She is easily one of the best
villains in any action picture in some time. Expect to see a lot more of
Loken in the future. All of the supporting casting is perfect and even
better than in T2. Arnold doesn't miss a beat. He can still kick major
butt.

As always, the demolition derby action pieces are the most fun. The dialog
is a hoot. "Drop your weapon -- and the coffin," the cops order the
Terminator as he exits a tomb with more than a chip on his shoulder. In
another scene, the Terminator, in his usual humorous deadpan, tells Connor,
"Anger is more useful than despair." There are funny visuals too with the
best being a convertible hearse, which, of course, doesn't start off that
way.

Even if he has to film it between legislative sessions, I hope
Schwarzenegger returns for a T4. But, if he doesn't, well, Stahl and Danes
could carry on without him. I want to know more about the Connor saga.
And, based on the strong box office results, so do the rest of you.

TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES runs a fast 1:49. It is rated R for
"strong sci-fi violence and action, and for language and brief nudity" and
would be acceptable for teenagers.

My son Jeffrey, age 14, had a blast and gave the picture a full ****. His
long list of superlatives went to all the cast, especially Arnold, the
realistic machines, the graphics, and the story. He said the TERMINATOR
series was one of the few in which all are great films.
