In stock (You can also collect in CPT)

Of course you want to know — When do I get it?

We strive at all times to get it to you sooner but here are some indications:

If we say In Stock, we dispatch same day (if ordered before 14:00 on a working day) and depending on where you stay it will be with you the next working day (Main Centres) or the next working day after that (Regional Areas). If you are in a remote area it may take an additional working day (a day longer than Regional).

If we say In Stock (You can also collect in cpt), the stock is available from our Cape Town warehouse and you can collect on the same working day if your payment has been authorised and you collect before 5pm.

If we say dispatched between X and Y days then it takes X to Y days to receive from a supplier and it will then be with you within a working day after dispatched (Main Centres) or the working day after that (Regional Areas). If you are in a remote area it may take an additional working day (a day longer than Regional Areas).

If we say Pre-order it means that your item will be dispatched to you on the day it's released.

We always try our very best to get it to you as soon as possible but cannot guarantee same day delivery.

Imports are a best effort service, we strive to get it to you as soon as possible within the guidelines above but it's not always within our complete control so if something goes wrong we will let you know.

And then there's a Friday, sigh... Try order early on a Friday, we can then try our best to get it to you on the same day (Main centres), otherwise we will have to get it to you during the next week.

If this is all too confusing, call us on 0861 222 989 or send an e-mail to info@takealot.com. One of our friendly employees will get back to you pronto.

When do I get it?

Description

Extended versions of Peter Jackson's complete epic big screen adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy - filmed back-to-back and released over 3 consecutive years. In 'The Fellowship of the Rings' (2001) Frodo (Elijah Wood) is a hobbit living in the Shire, a quiet, peaceful part of Middle Earth. When it turns out that his elderly relative Bilbo (Ian Holm) is harbouring the ultimate Ring of Power and the evil Nazgul riders of Sauron are coming to find it, Frodo is entrusted by wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) to deliver the Ring out of the Shire without it falling into their hands. Frodo leaves the Shire aided by his cousins Merry (Dominic Monaghan), Pippin (Billy Boyd) and trusty friend Sam Gamgee (Sean Astin), but they soon realise that the agents of Mordor are everywhere and that their trip is far from over. Once they reach the Elvish realm of Rivendell the Hobbits form part of the anti-Sauron fellowship, which includes Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Boromir (Sean Bean), Legolas Greenleaf (Orlando Bloom), Gimli the dwarf and of course Gandalf. Together they must battle across Middle Earth to destroy the Ring by casting it into the Cracks of Doom, the fiery chasm in the centre of Mordor. In 'The Two Towers' (2002) the Fellowship of the Ring has now divided and Sam and Frodo are lost in the hills of Emyn Muil. They are also being followed by Gollum, a creature who promises to help them find the Mountain of Doom. Meanwhile Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli search for the hobbits Merry and Pippin in the Kingdom of Rohan, which is currently being attacked by Saruman's orc armies. Gandalf returns as Gandalf the White to remind Aragorn of his destiny to unite the people of Rohan with Gondor. Whilst the Fellowship are not travelling together they must unite against the powerful forces coming from the Two Towers: Orthanc Tower in Isengard where Saruman has bred a deadly army of 10,000, and Sauron's fortress at Barad-dûr. Finally, 'The Return of the King' (2003) won all 11 Academy Awards it was nominated for, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. Gandalf manages to rally Gondor's fallen army with the help of King Theoden of Rohan for the biggest battle in the history of Middle-earth; and Aragorn finally faces up to his responsibilities. They are obviously out-numbered but are determined to keep Sauron distracted in order to enable Frodo to complete his quest to destroy the Ring by throwing it into the fires of the Mountain of Doom.

A very good buy!

Brent, MELKBOSSTRAND. 5 August 2009

BEEN A FAN OF THE LORD OF THE RINGS SINCE THE VERY 1ST MOVIE.

HAVING THE 2 EXTRA DISKS IN EACH MOVIE TELLING U HOW EACH MOVIE WAS MADE AND HOW MUCH WORK WENT INTO IT MAKES U APPRECIATE THE MOVIE EVEN MORE

MONEY WELL SPENT...FOR THIS PRICE...WHO WILL EVER REGRET BUYING IT...I KNOW I NEVER WILL

Rudolf, SOMERSET WEST. 15 March 2006

I imported this box set all the way from the UK when it was released.

BUY IT!! For R481 it's a bargain!

The Set:
You get 12 DVD's in total. 4 per movie. 2 of the discs contain the actual film and the other 2 contain loads and loads of bonus material. The box is neat and will look impressive in your collection.

The Movies and soundtrack:
All 3 movies are extended. Roughly 30mins of extra footage each. Ever wondered what happened to the orcs in Two Towers?? Video quality is excellent and an added bonus is the DTS ES Discrete 6.1 soundtrack. No matrix decoding. 6 proper discrete audio channels plus a sub-woofer channel. Of course you will need a 6.1 DTS compatible receiver to appreciate the extra center rear channel.

The Bonus Material
I've watched all of the bonus discs and I can honestly say that I don't know of any other dvd movie release that can compare to the amount of bonus material on these discs. Everything is there. From conceptual art to costume design to visual effects. They also have some interesting bits on Tolkien.

Verdict:
Even if you are not a fan of fantasy films/books, you will appreciate the amount of work that went into creating these 3 movies. Just watch the bonus material and you will see. It's monumental!

And if you are a fan of the book but think the film is not true to the book, again, watch the bonus material and all will be revealed. Jackson and the writers are quite convincing in their explanation of why they changed certain things.

Fan or no fan, BUY IT!! BUY IT NOW!!

Naazneen, Kensington. 29 September 2006

Without a doubt, a most excellent product.

For any fan, it is an absolute essential.
The trilogy spans across 12 disks, with 4 disks per feature.
2 with the extended cut and 2 jam packed with extra's, interviews, bloopers, 'making of' and various other featurettes.

Packaged wonderfully in neat individual cases, it is something you will cherish forever!

A perfect 10!

Need I say more!!! This sets the standard of what a special 4 disc extended edition should look like!!! This DVD boxset will make all your other DVDs seem inferior! The amount of effort, creativity, design and sheer magnitude of what it has to offer is mind blowing! The material is rich, purposeful as well as interesting to watch. There is never! a dull moment!!

Definitely a treasure to cherish in you DVD collection

Melana, Tamboerskloof. 26 September 2007

If you are a true fan of the movies you will love this. Nine hours of movie with some very important info from the book added in. And then you still have hours and hours of special features, everything from the special effects and bigatures to getting to know the cast. This is and fantastic product and must have for fans.

Petrus, South Africa. 2 May 2009

If there was even a moment of hesitation before you choose "Add to chart" let me make it an easy choice for you: this is probably the best DVD Boxset you will ever buy. Even if you hate fantasy, Peter Jackson, Hobbit's or people with dirty feet, still buy this product if only for your grandchildren to enjoy the most memorable film of our time. And to top that off it is the EXTENDED versions of the films. That means it is EVEN BETTER that the already deserved 10 out of 10 mark! And at this INCREDIBLE price (in SA I bought mine for R700) you should already have stopped reading this and pressed "Add to chart". Don't buy food this month; buy this!

Kieran, Hillcrest. 18 January 2009

This is the definitive collection of the Lord of the Rings. Truly epic, both in duration (set over 12 discs, 6 of which contain the movie, with extra features including, storyboard art, panel discussions, director and cast commentary. Info in WEGA's special fx, this is an incredible boxset. It's beautifully pasckaged as well featuring the art of Alan Lee. The soundtrack is in DTS audio, which truly does justice to Howard Shore's beautiful compositions and the London Philharmonic vibrates with th eotherworldy power of Tolkien's world. A must in any DVD collection. This is the definitive fantasy film of all time.

Keeran, WINCHESTER HILLS EXT 1. 27 July 2009

A must have for any DVD collection, Excellent DTS recording, brilliant extended versions, all wrapped in an attractive case perfect for any display cabinet. Worth every cent...

This...

When this set was first released, it was my dream to finally own one for myself. My older sister bought one for R1,400 upon release, and I promised myself I'd get one for myself one day. Sure enough, I found one at a small CD/DVD shop a few weeks back, and decided to start looking into the possiblity of getting one for under the R699 price it was still selling for. I decided to search Take2 without much hope, but sure enough, I found it.

For R377, I now have my own. Free importing and free shipping makes this the best audio/video buy I've made to date.

The extended editions are awesome - I've watched all three of them numerous times - more than 10 times easily - and I can now do it again with my own DVD's. Honestly the best buy you will get in terms of value-for-money collectors items, this is a must-have for all CD/DVD movie collectors. Even if you don't like the movies, it will be stupid NOT to buy them, and the price can only go up from here (and have after I paid my copy, it actually did go up by R2).

This is honestly a dream come true for me, I've not been expecting a bargain like this anytime soon, and an extremely appreciated effort from Take2 to import this DVD free of charge makes me believe that I can only use Take2 more and more often from now on.

Thank you Take2, you are truly a great body of persons, and your work here is greatly appreciated.

*looks up to Take2 logo with awe*
