Coming off being voted the overall winner of the AMERICAN IDOL TV competition, Kelly Clarkson had big expectations to meet once she hit the studio to record her debut. Luckily, it was one of those few instances where the general public threw their lot in with a genuine talent and as a result, THANKFUL turns out to be solid demonstration of Kelly's wide-ranging abilities. Pop guru Clive Davis oversees the proceedings from his executive producer perch and on the Mariah-like opener "The Trouble With Love Is" and the gospel-flavored Diane Warren-penned power ballad "Some Kind of Miracle," you can hear what Davis gleaned from working with prima divas like Whitney Houston. The grande dame of reality TV also shows off her compositional skills on collaborations with fellow teen idol Christina Aguilera (a hard-edged "Miss Independent") and R&B smoothie Babyface (the soulful title track). There's even a duet with friend and fellow contestant Tamyra Gray on the sizzling "You Thought Wrong." Fans riding the Kelly Clarkson train from early on get their due as well, via new mixes of the genial Texan's double-sided debut single "A Moment Like This/Before Your Love" tacked on as bonus tracks.

First off I just have to say, that out of all the releases by Idol winners from around the world, Kelly's debut album is the best I've heard (Will Young's "From Now On" coming a close second of course).

1.The Trouble With Love Is - Reminiscent of very early Mariah Carey I would say - and she kind of sounds like Mariah on this one. Good song to establish Kelly as a diva of the future. This track can also be heard on the Love Actually OST, and was the 4th and final single released off the album.

2.Miss Independent - Christina Aguilera's influence on this one shines through. Great song, and was a perfect choice as the 2nd single off the album. It just shows a whole other side to Kelly as a performer. Probably my favourite song on the album.

3.Low - Showcases yet another side to Kelly, I think. I can kind of see this on a Dawson's Creek soundtrack (and it's a compliment, cause I loved Dawson's Creek). This was the 3rd single lifted off the album.

4.Some Kind Of Miracle - Reminds me of the old Motown era. Kind of jazzy R & B - a nice ballad.

5.What's Up Lonely - Once again it reminds of old school Mariah. A nice R & B tune for close-grooving on the dancefloor.

6.Just Missed The Train - I's classify this as a rock mid-tempo song - I really like this, cause it sounds great, and you can't really put it a genre. It kind of blurs the genre lines. Yet another one for a DC soundtrack.

7.Beautiful Disaster - Reminds me of a more mellow Sheryl Crow - it's definitely got that rock flava. Another one of my favourites. For me this was the catchiest song on the album - I still find myself singing it from time to time.

8.You Thought Wrong - The fact that this track wasn't released as a single is a total bummer. I mean, Kelly and Tamyra Gray (4th place in American Idol 1st Season) on one track? What more could you ask for? I like everything about the song, from the intro right through to the giggles at the end. After listening to the first few lines, I could totally see Pink doing this. GREAT SONG, really sassy - nough said! (Yet another anthem for girls around the world)

9.Thankful - Has a swing feel to it - a cross of swing with R & B. Can't really think of any other song or artist to compare this to. Yet it has such a familiar sound to it - like you've known the song forever.

10.Anytime - Undoubtedly my choice for a ballad single release - and a firm favourite of mine. This is such a powerful song - I love it. On par with Anastacia's "You'll Never Be Alone" (one of my favourite Anastacia songs). They sound quite similar actually if you compare the melodies for the choruses. To late to petition now, but I still believe this would've been a better 4th single choice than "The Trouble With Love"

11.A Moment Like This - What's left to say that hasn't been said before? AMAZING - this is one of the songs that showcases why Kelly won. The first track off Kelly's double A-side debut.

12.Before Your Love - I actually favoured this one above track 11 when I heard them both for the first time. Brilliant song, and a firm favourite of mine. Definitely the stronger A-side of the two.

Overall this is a brilliant album. Whether you're a follower of the international Idols phenomenon or not, this is a must have for every music collection.
After headlining the Independent Tour with Clay Aiken, (first runner up on AI Second Season) Kelly is now working on her second album. The first single is likely to be released August 2004, with the album following in October 2004.

One of the most talented Idol winners produced! There are no words to describe her talent! This is the first of her now 4 albums released, and a definite must have if you enjoy her music and lyrics. My favourite song on this album is "Low".
