I love this little Android box. Its fast and easy to use and perfect for 1080 movies. Just make sure you load the patch file from their website. The remote is also very good, you can even program it with your TV remote to control your TV. It works 100% in my 6m+ lounge

Victoria, South Africa. 14 November 2015

I purchased this purely on a Daily deal to see if it could replace my Mini PC. It arrived very quickly as usual but that is were the amazement ended. It is extremely slow to set up. you have to use 1 of the USB ports for the remote (which doesn't connect using the IR port), it is quick to start up from there but you need to update it immediately. For this, you need to scour the internet for the newest version and to load it, you are risking having to replace it as sometimes the load does not work. I love Kodi/Openelec, so this device will be best suited to a noob user who does not need to use more than 1 hard drive connected. Also, the manual says that it supports up to 2TB drives, my 2 4TB drives connected perfectly. So if you are only starting out on using a media box, this is way better than my WDTV but it is way short of my home made Mini PCTV.

Mario, South Africa. 3 November 2014

PRO: The ATV582 has so far played all media I have thrown at it with no issues. As a replacement for an old HTPC it's doing a great job at a lower price.

CON: And it's a big one, the remote is of a much lower quality, not only is the functions limited, it is also buggy and will pickup different/incorrect inputs. A few of the issues I've experienced: put the player in standby at random commands, cannot easily scroll through lists(need to repeatedly press Up or Down instead of just holding down an option), poor integration with XBMC.

FIN: At the discounted price, a good buy, cause you will need all the money you save to buy a new remote, which made the ATV582 my bedroom HTPC, at least until I can find a better remote solution.

Reese, South Africa. 4 March 2015

Nice product, remote is IR so i highly recommend getting yourself an air mouse as well

Laurence, South Africa. 3 December 2014

Excellent product, does what it says it does

Neels, South Africa. 9 January 2016

Extremely "junk" remote control! Remote Model KR-40. First one was exchanged because half the functions on the remote control did not work. I am sure a bigger remote with all the functions on only one side will work better. I ordered myself a "Air Mouse Wireless Keyboard Remote" with all the functions on one side. There is also software problems. When you put the Mygica to sleep and switch on it does not connect to wi fi and clicking on "connect" freezes it up. Only solution is to pull the power plug out and restart that way.
All being said it is an Android with plenty of app's and unlimited scope.

Clinton, South Africa. 6 November 2015

Nice size and got loads of power, but the let down is the remote. A tiny piece of plastic (feels brittle), the direction button creeks and feels CHEAP. I will try my Rii remote from my Raspberry Pi.
Shipped with a DEAD battery for the remote too (Old Stock?)

Jill, South Africa. 5 March 2015

It took me hours to get this device set up. For 1 reason - the hideously inadequate remote which is included. Only after I plugged in my wireless mouse did I manage to get things set up. Besides the remote, this is a really amazing little device. I recently purchased the Rii Mini i8 Multimedia Wireless Keyboard to compliment the MyGica and it works really well together. Solid 4 stars. Would have given it 5 stars if it was not for the remote.

Roelf, South Africa. 22 August 2015

Very happy with the quality of the product and performance once you figured out how it all fits together. I will not be looking for any other media center devices.

They do need to work on the remote - mitigated in some way with the Yatse app.

Will be buying a second one soon.

Justin, South Africa. 2 April 2015

Rather impressive device with very few issues. Movies which I struggled to watch on less powerful devices in the past, play without a hitch. Yes, as many people have noted has it's limitations, but if you are going to use the device for just watching movies then the remote control is more than adequate. If however you want to navigate through other apps on the device, then get one of the Rii mini keyboards with mouse pad.

Johnathan, South Africa. 9 July 2015

Great device and easy to setup. :D

Raymond, South Africa. 3 January 2016

This device is okay for the price while running it with a ethernet cable, but WiFi is unfortunately painfully slow, to the point of being unusable. This is a Firmware problem that the guys over at MyGica have been trying to sort out for months without success. Very disappointed that I can only use the device with a wired connection. The remote is really, really bad and had to buy another. I would not recommend this until they sort out the WiFi issue.
Kodi, SuperSport, DSTV Now and almost any app from the Store worked without issue.

Paul, South Africa. 26 November 2014

I bought this to replace my Raspberry PI as a media server and it truly is an incredible upgrade. It is fast, practically lag free and streams Full HD over wifi with no problems. I am very happy and honestly, pleasantly surprised

Sinclair, South Africa. 1 May 2015

The MyGica ATV582 is AWESOME! The device was very easy to setup and integrated seamlessly with my current home entertainment setup. It's fast and plays anything you throw at it. For the people complaining about the remote, there are plenty of Android TV apps that you can use to control the device, go look. Overall, I'm extremely happy with this device.

Jean, South Africa. 3 February 2015

The remote mouse not working.Device keeps on hanging randomly.
Don't know if mine is just faulty, but I am returning it. Will not recommend this product at all!

ANNEMARIE, South Africa. 26 December 2014

The Media Player is superb however navigating the remote control is extremely difficult. Instructions on its use is worthless. Anybody out there that can help with this problem??

Greg, South Africa. 7 July 2015

A whole lot bang for your buck. Very impressed with the video quality as well

Ashley, South Africa. 5 December 2015

This gets a 5 star from me, it's absolutely brilliant and does everything I wanted and expected.

Pros: Full NTFS external drive support up to 2TB
Allows for installation of apps from the Play Store (Specifically Utorrent)
Can be used as both a media center/pc and download PC.
The unit is absolutely tiny and uses very little power for its amazing functionality.
H265 decoding is not officially supported but works.

Cons: Definitely the remote, but using the Google TV remote on my smartphone is much better.
Lastly, not a con but would have been nicer to have an extra USB port preferably USB 3.0.

Robert, South Africa. 16 December 2014

The Mygica is an awesome piece of tech. Xbmc is truely a big plus on this device. Wifi streaming not the best though, works better through a wired lan connection.

David, South Africa. 19 November 2015

Overall a good product and worth the money - definitely better than the WDTV Live Plus that I had!! I initially had a problem with the remote similar to what many other people experienced - I changed the battery and now it's perfect, incidentally the battery that came with the remote was fully charged so I'm not sure why it wasn't working properly. Another issue I had was that all audio was out of sync (always by the same amount) which I resolved by just setting a permanent delay in Kodi settings. I would say the only thing I dislike is that Kodi can only be updated with a firmwave update to the entire device.

Ryan, South Africa. 9 November 2015

Not very impressed with this device, I am returning it.

All the features are really great with it running on an Android OS with full app store etc,
But it struggles to play large decent resolution files that my previous and OLD mede8er played without a hitch. The stuttering renders it unusable for me.

Which has left me disappointed because everything else is amazing except for its main purpose... to PLAY media!!

Anthony, South Africa. 3 December 2014

Very versatile player esp. with access to Android play store. Very fast even with a 2TB hard drive.
REMOTE is biggest disappointment, hit and miss, getting one of those RII wireless keyboards which I borrowed from a friend and it works like a dream with.
Another downside is that it does not completely shuts down, not good for hard drive, but it seems to be common problem.

Mario, South Africa. 4 July 2015

Got this on a daily deal. Very happy with the MyGica ATV582 so far. Although it comes with it's own remote, I got the Rii i25 wireless mouse and keyboard as part of a bundle deal which worked a lot better. I connected the mygica box directly to my router via network cable which connected instantly without any additional steps needed (but it can do wifi aswell)

I followed this link below to get up and running fast. Have had no issues so far with streaming and it performs well (I haven't tried from external drive yet but am sure it will also work fine)

faizel, South Africa. 1 December 2014

Remote?! Come on guys, the solution is free and easy!
Download the free app - Just search for xbmc remote or KODI remote in your app store.
I highly recommend SYBU for XBMC (iOS AppStore). It's made by a South African Developer,
and I am loving it on my iPhone. Homegrown FTW!!

Armand, South Africa. 3 December 2014

Good device - nice and tiny, streams 1080HD movies like a dream over 300mbps wifi network using XBMC UPNP. The MyGICA middleware not the greatest, but you can still do what you need without too much issue. Still struggling to install wireless keyboard or bluetooth mini keyboard. The remote does the thing, but you would expect the standard play, stop, next and previous buttons.

For the price, buy it.

Stephen, South Africa. 26 June 2015

Terrible quality remote. Slow and kept freezing. I returned this product.

Martina, South Africa. 28 October 2014

I'm very happy with my choice. It's an excellent device and does exactly what I was expecting.

Greg, South Africa. 19 November 2014

This is a great media player. Having Android as the operating system means that it will appeal to the advanced user and with the MyGica skin it will appeal to the person who is looking for a simple solution.

Wired Ethernet (100MBs) works great and the Wifi connection is also good. You can play files from an attached USB drive or any NAS drive or shared drive on your network.

As the media player runs XBMC it means there is constant development and improvements being made to what is probably already the best media centre software available. There are plenty of add ons to satisfy all users.

Be sure to get the latest firmware upgrade and download the newer version of youtube, Youtube for TV. This allows control of the youtube app on the player to be controlled from the Youtube app on your smartphone.

Philip, South Africa. 2 December 2015

Bought on yesterday, first the battery for the remote was flat so i went out to buy another one just to find that the remote didn't work. Had to return it today. :(

Richard, South Africa. 26 October 2014

The device offers a lot of opportunities, however the remote control provided is very much insufficient. To properly control this device, you will need a mouse & keyboard with it.

Dylan, South Africa. 8 December 2014

It works great. Although I have a few issues with it. The remote is pretty much useless.. Working with infrared, one would know that your burst frequency should be off by factors of at least 500. But if you press the down button twice in a certain period apart, the machine is put to sleep, because the infrared receiver translates it as the command to put it to sleep.

I had one other issue, the USB ports sometimes only work if I restart the machine itself.

Other than that, its great value for money.

Johan, South Africa. 17 October 2014

Wow, really struggling with this device. Probably going to return it. Just checking online first to make sure I am not being the idiot.

Negatives
Remote - Really not good. In fact, it ruins the whole experience You can't control any Android apps with it (e.g. play/pause) and you will likely have to purchase a wireless keyboard.
Shutdown - Can't shutdown the device, therefore it is always on. This also means that the HDD that you connect will also be always on.
Not the simplest item to update, but you can manage.

Positives
Good XBMC interface (again, the remote does not really help much).
Great apps to download due to the Android OS.
Great video playback.
If I had a 4K TV I might have overlooked a lot of the other issues. The 4K player works wonderfully.

Trevor, South Africa. 21 November 2014

Works fantastically well out of the box - my only complaint is the remote: it is not up to the task, hence the purchase of an air mouse and keyboard!

Saleem, South Africa. 3 December 2014

Great product,

Lucian, South Africa. 19 February 2015

Pros: Fast, like the 4K playback, loading of Apps

Cons: The lag between the remote and device, remote lack of buttons for xbmc

Patrick, South Africa. 20 January 2015

Very happy with the second of these devices.

Lee, South Africa. 7 November 2015

Very good product. Plays all formats. Only problem, it bricks easily when updating and cannot recover.

craig, South Africa. 17 February 2017

Nice product

Henk, South Africa. 26 July 2016

Very nice compact unit packed with features, just a pity about H.265 playback not being supported. (it plays, but not enjoyable at all even with the unit flashed with os)

Naresh, South Africa. 15 September 2016

Love it! Small and compact and packs a punch. It will play most video formats from your external drive or similar whereas my dvd player did not allow MKV files. All you really need is an external wireless keyboard and mouse and you're perfectly setup. 80% of your usual use is fine with the remote you get.

Werner, South Africa. 6 January 2017

Brilliant Box for its price, look its not the latest and greatest but it serves all my needs. I only wanted two things a box that could play any content I throw at it (as of yet I haven't found anything it couldn't play) and a box that could let me watch YouTube on my TV, I wasn't about to spend 9K on a smart tv if I could get all the smart functionality for 1,4K. TO this effect the box was successful and I'm very happy. The only drawback is the remote you will NEVER scroll through YouTube with this remote, solution is to get a remote app on your phone or to buy an off the shelf remote with better scrolling. I'm not going the route of a wireless mouse and keyboard although this is by far the easiest solution. All and all its a brilliant product and I'm very happy with the purchase!

Eric, South Africa. 14 February 2017

The ATV582 feels solid and works great. The device is rooted so the latest ShowMax app has problems with this device.

Pieter, South Africa. 7 December 2016

Does as advertised, no real problems this far, the included remote control is a bit of an annoyance, I opted for a wireless mouse and keyboard instead.

Francois, South Africa. 13 July 2016

Pros:Nice andriod device.Streaming is good. Netflix and Kodi works well.Setup is easy.

Cons:Remote does not work well.

Stuart, South Africa. 13 January 2017

Good processing power for a media player of it's cost. Does not play MKV above 720 with it's built in media player app app but easily fixable with a Plex server. Remote is cumbersome to use for scrolling during web browsing and netfilx. Kodi runs very well. Still better than an Apple TV as you get to keep your soul. And Kodi

Ruargh, South Africa. 11 January 2017

good players

Shaun, South Africa. 25 January 2017

Bought one for my dad and one for myself in December 2016, no problems at all, streams well on 4Mbps and 10Mbps adsl lines, WiFi also works as well as the Ethernet port. The remote also has a qwerty keyboard on it which is great.

Grant, South Africa. 3 August 2016

Works well. This comes with a new bigger remote now, I cant find the exact model number of the remote on MyGica website but its working well, still has the keyboard on the reverse side. Wifi sometimes doesnt reconnect after being in standby, I need to disable and re-enable wifi to get it to connect but I will try change to LAN connection.

Deon, South Africa. 8 March 2017

The MyGicaMTV582 cannot play x265 file , meaning it is already out of date.

Francois, South Africa. 10 March 2017

Great product!! Dowloaded remote app so now I control the MyGica from my cellphone. Great media centre pc replacement. Wifi, Bluetooth and LAN built in. Screen mirror turns my normal TV into a Smart Tv with Android support. Play android games on my tv, watch movies, surf the internet and go through my phone pictures on my tv + 2x usb ports to connect external hard disks or other devices. There is even camera support, so I can Skype with a camera! Great product for the price!

Mark, South Africa. 17 October 2016

Works as describe. After much research into Android TV boxes, this one seemed the best value for spec's.

Nathan, South Africa. 7 July 2016

The system interface is fine and the qwerty keyboard on the back of the remote is very handy. However, Android apps are not well supported for use with a remote control. Both Netflix and ShowMax require constant switching between normal direction key mode and 'mouse' cursor mode, and even then, it is impossible to view episode lists or, in the case of ShowMax, even to scroll sideways. Plex has a TV mode that works perfectly; if other apps followed suit this would be the perfect device for streaming media as Android offers the widest choice of channels.

Mark, South Africa. 31 August 2016

Excellent Product

Amith, South Africa. 23 January 2017

Got the MyGica ATV582 for a week now and am enjoying it. Remote works fine. I use my android phone as remote when using Kodi.

Mohammed, South Africa. 20 June 2016

bought this on daily deal, item did not come with the remote in the description (kr-300). came with some other remote that doesn't even support air mouse.

Sean, South Africa. 8 December 2016

Overall I am satisfied with the product. I find navigating around or switching between applications slower than it could be. The other disappointing factor is the remote. Using the remote mouse is slow and cumbersome and then you have to turn the mouse off to enable scrolling which still doesn't work on some application like either netflix or showmax. A wifi mouse with scrolling wheel is easier to use than the remote but you can't adjust volume on some application via software (got to use the tv remote to adjust volume).

Nico Badenhorst, South Africa. 3 February 2017

Do not trust any of the reviews. My honest opinion is that this is a piece of junk. It is slow and the lack of space makes it unable to watch good quality movies as it needs the temporary space to stream it so saying it's 4K is pretty much useless. It CANT play DSTV Now! Having mine returned immediately...

Al, South Africa. 25 July 2016

Works well. Great for watching Netflix, YouTube, etc
One negative - need to get own wireless mouse

thys, South Africa. 14 March 2017

How do I connect my remote ?

Darryn, South Africa. 25 February 2017

Probably the worst product I have bought. That this company actually releases this price of rubbish is astonishing. It barely even recognizes its own remote. Not enough RAM and buffers like it's on dial up. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

Michael, South Africa. 30 December 2016

It is a great product, very easy to setup and did everything I expected and more. Thanks Guys

Shiraz, South Africa. 16 March 2017

Fantastic product. Once it has been setup, the possibilities are endless. As long as you have a fast enough WIFI (minimum 4 Mbps) and uncapped or a large data package, the unit works like a dream. All the latest movies, series, documentaries and live sport are available. Highly recommended !!!

RSAO, South Africa. 9 December 2016

The device stuck no hard reset and there is no hard reset to restore factory settings. It is now a dead blastic box

Johannes, South Africa. 23 February 2017

Very nice interface easy to setup and the RF41 remote mouse work very well.

Robert , South Africa. 9 February 2017

Very good as old technology. Pity it cannot be upgraded to the newer operating system. Very disappointing. For the price well worth it. I would have bought a newer model

Maurizio, South Africa. 11 January 2017

I use it for Kodi and Exodus and works very well. Would have liked an air mouse remote to be shipped with device rather than standard remote

Herman, South Africa. 26 October 2016

A good product that can do with a few tweaks;

1. If you run this unit through an amplifier with hdmi inputs and throughputs to hq audio and video, you get picture but no sound - major irritation. (my amp - Pioneer)
2. System does not come preloaded with worthwhile add-ons such as Exodus, Sportsdevil, Castaway etc.
3. No explanation on whether one can update Kodi whcih comes preloaded with 16.1 Jarvis.

John, South Africa. 14 March 2017

I am ready to dump my ATV582 in the trashcan

While cleaning up I came across the 582 and I now have to decide "do I dump it in the trashcan or do I try to get a new keyboard".

I haven't it used for quite some years as the keyboard just doesn't work properly at all.

Reading the Mygica support pages, I found out that the keyboars was later replaced, but there's no info on how to get a replacement. I also cannot find any info on which inexpensive generic wireless keyboard will work with it.

I don't like wasting money, but I don't want to spend more money unnecessarily, so if its not going to work, I'd rather just dump it in the trashcan.
