The primary advantage to a UPS is that in cases of sudden power loss the UPS will continue to power the computer system long enough for you to save your work.
Additionally, in environments which have problems with "dirty power"... meaning the electrical supply may have sudden spikes or dips such as in an older building or neighborhood the UPS offers a great deal more protection than a standard surge suppressor would.

This is a very solid and reliable UPS, it has saved me twice already. Power here in Johannesburg has been unreliable lately so I'd recommend this for anyone who spends many hours a day working in front of their computer. The software that comes with this is very useful as well.

Bought this because of the Eskom's threat of load shedding and don't regret it. Within a day electricity had been cut and I managed to save my data and shutdown my PC without damage or loss of data. It's strong enough to run 2 PC and a couple of printers simultaneously. It's quite and makes no noise except when warning you of a change in power status.
