The primary advantage to a UPS is that in cases of sudden power loss the UPS will continue to power the computer system long enough for you to save your work.
Additionally, in environments which have problems with "dirty power"... meaning the electrical supply may have sudden spikes or dips such as in an older building or neighborhood the UPS offers a great deal more protection than a standard surge suppressor would.

A UPS is not designed to provide continuous power, merely a window period that allows a computer or other user to finalise the work at hand and shut down. It's ability to do this is dependent on the number of devices connected to the UPS.
To establish what you can and cannot connect, calculate the total wattage you need to supply and ensure that the UPS you purchase meets that requirement.

Came faulty out of the box - tripped both the earth leakage as well as the 15A circuit breaker on first switch on - definately not worth a review. Returned to takealot for a credit to buy a different brand.

Saved me during an outage. Subtracting 1 star because you will have to buy separate cables if your monitor uses a "figure 8" power cable.

PROS: Does exactly what you'd expect for this price range. Perfect for home or small office use. Easy to setup.
CONS: Can't change the tone/volume of the alarm beep. It's like nails on a chalkboard. You can disable the beep in the settings but that kind of defeats the purpose.
The UPS Fan is louder than my PC. (My PC is pretty quiet though)

Bought this because of the Eskom's threat of load shedding and don't regret it. Within a day electricity had been cut and I managed to save my data and shutdown my PC without damage or loss of data. It's strong enough to run 2 PC and a couple of printers simultaneously. It's quite and makes no noise except when warning you of a change in power status.

This UPS is as good as any in this category. You can install Winpower (included) to get more info and also to disable the audible beep (which becomes annoying really fast).
To change the setting, open Winpower Manager, go to System -> "Act as Administrator" then enter password (default: Administrator). Then change the setting under Device -> Device Control Parameters.

This is a very solid and reliable UPS, it has saved me twice already. Power here in Johannesburg has been unreliable lately so I'd recommend this for anyone who spends many hours a day working in front of their computer. The software that comes with this is very useful as well.

Had it for a year and it hasnt saved me once from a trip, stay well clear of this. Spend your money on chappies.

Quick and easy to set up and use. Only annoyance: when the power goes off, it beeps every 10 seconds, which is apparently normal behaviour.
James, South Africa. 6 March 2015
Quality System with good features

Great product, does what I need it to do.
Dale, South Africa. 10 February 2015
I bought this to power my adsl router when the power goes down but the router does not draw a lot of power so the ups thinks what ever is connected to it is in sleep mode and shuts down to save power. And there seems to be no way to chnange this. So this was a waste of time and money for me.

Draw from adsl modem is too low and unit switches off after 5 mins. Don't use for adsl modem!!!! It wont work.
Fahim, South Africa. 29 April 2015
Only no power cable.
Worth the buy.
