A UPS is not designed to provide continuous power, merely a window period that allows a computer or other user to finalise the work at hand and shut down. It's ability to do this is dependent on the number of devices connected to the UPS.
To establish what you can and cannot connect, calculate the total wattage you need to supply and ensure that the UPS you purchase meets that requirement.
Andrea, South Africa. 9 May 2015
The supplied monitoring software on the CD is pretty awful. If you want your pc to shut down when the battery runs out you should look at something else. No issues with the actual hardware though, so if you don't have a monitoring requirement this is a good buy.
Michael, South Africa. 1 August 2014
Awesome product. VERY quiet which is important to me since it sits under my desk. I have my monitors and my main 700Watt PSU on it.
GARRY, South Africa. 22 February 2015
The supplied monitoring software on the CD does not work with WIndows 7. Had to locate and download a newer version. As soon as I installed the UPS, I found that the USB connection on the back is faulty (cable is loose and just wiggles around inside the connection). It therefore keeps connecting and disconnecting from my PC continuously. Logged a return with Takealot, will probably exchange for a Mustek or Proline as I don't want another with the same fault.
Rudi, South Africa. 4 April 2014
Monitoring software refuses to work, but otherwise works as advertised. Handling 3 PC's. Haven't tested Battery life, but that will be down to your usage.
Wayne, South Africa. 9 July 2015
Have bought 5 of these UPS's for various people. Bought it specifically for my folks to power LCD TV, DSTV and a lamp during load shedding. Easily makes the 2 and a half hours (stage 2). Could probably power their ADSL router and pc as well.
To install the software, right click the setup file and "Run as Administrator". Alternatively, download the latest version of the software here: http://www.power-software-download.com/viewpower.html (same installation instruction i.e. right click and Run as Administrator").
Why install the software? To stop the beeping noise every 10 seconds while the UPS is powering everything. The only problem is, if you switch of the UPS using its On/Off button, you will have to run the software again to disable the beeping when you power it back on.
Willie, South Africa. 8 December 2016
Product as promised
Needs switch for sound (suggestion)
Ryan, South Africa. 4 May 2015
Excellent product, highly recommended. Standard batteries are more than sufficient as a computer UPS. I've connected it to an additional 4x 26Ah batteries of mine running at 52Ah and 24V to power my TV, PS3, amp and a few lights during load shedding and it's working great.
Michael, South Africa. 7 June 2015
Happy with UPS. Not as noisy as I was expecting. Connected my 50" LED TV and HDPVR Decoder to it. It lasted for 1 hour and 30 minutes. Very simple, plug and play.
Jean, South Africa. 29 April 2015
Cornel, South Africa. 16 July 2015
I'm writing this review to set the record straight on those who have said this UPS powers a whole lot of stuff for the full 2 hours of load-shedding. What utter rubbish! It can barely run a portable radio for that period! So don't think of this unit as battery power while there is load-shedding! Its good however to give you about 12 to 20 minutes to get your PC shut down. If you manage to get that awful software to actually work then set it to shut down your PC after about 5 minutes. I run a small server in my house and thus the auto-shutdown is very useful. The continuous beeping every 10 seconds when running on the UPS battery is extremely annoying - I opened up the unit and yanked out the beeper with a pair of pliers! At the price a good deal and handy to prevent your PCs from crashing the moment the lights go out. It remains to be seen however, how long it will take before the batteries need to be replaced - and they are not cheap.
Christopher, South Africa. 10 June 2014
Seems to do the job - software works well in Windows 8.1 (Installed as administrator)
Jimmy, South Africa. 11 May 2015
So far so good! The thing is it has been difficult to find the manufacturer's website and their software has compatibility issues on Windows 8
Charl, South Africa. 25 February 2015
Excellent product. Keeps my microserver and network routers running for more than 45 minutes. Added software is great for monitoring the UPS status, you can even check on your UPS from your office if you setup your internet firewall properly. It has 2 3pin plugs which is great for things like ADSL router powersupply.
Great value for money, highly recommended!
Chris, South Africa. 5 March 2015
Pros: very affordable, manageable dimensions - it fits under the printer, plug & play!, switches over immediately on power loss.
Con: One serious design flaw: The beeper comes on when grid power is off. Ok, in case I didn't notice the lights went off. But: No way to stop it. So I'll have to cut that thing. Physically. It's like having a reversing fork lift cruising around my desk - very annoying.
Andre, South Africa. 3 January 2015
Very happy with the UPS, value for money. Liked the addition of the USB and free monitoring software. CD did not want to read but found newer version of the software online @ http://www.power-software-download.com/viewpower.html
Goolam, South Africa. 14 November 2014
It does what it is meant to do and runs all the devices in my study i.e. desktop PC, 2 x printers, router, cordless phones and speaker system. I was not able to load the software on Windows 7 and there is no support for this.
Daniel, South Africa. 16 April 2014
All claims met - very happy with product
Brad, South Africa. 31 July 2015
Works as expected! Beside the beep, the USB connector on the unit is a bit dodgy. Seems to disconnect and reconnect continuously. I've upgraded and reinstalled my USB drivers multiple times including changing ports and cable, yet the problem persists!
Mpho, South Africa. 14 October 2015
Good product but software not so useful.
No load shedding since I bought it :-(
Stephen, South Africa. 13 November 2014
Does what it says on the can. Would be a higher rating, if it actually came bundled with a power cable, instead of the 2 Male to female kettle plugs and a usb cable.
James, South Africa. 18 December 2014
An excellent UPS for an excellent price. The only downside is the bundled software which doesn't accurately read the remaining battery percentage, it says that there is less than what is actually there (you can tell as the UPS itself reports the remaining percentage using the LEDs on its front). I'm very happy with this purchase!
Lafras, South Africa. 23 April 2015
Pretty descent UPS.
The UPS was able to run for 2 hours and 15 minutes with the power saving setting set to "high" on the TV.
Turning off the power saving setting on the TV, the UPS only lasted 1 hour.
Equipment running off the UPS:
1x 55" Samsung LED
1x Android media player (content playing from a USB memory stick)
The only thing is the buzzer which cannot be permanently disabled on this unit.
Mike, South Africa. 21 February 2017
With UPS's being a bit of a mystery, I researched quite a bit and was glad to find a RCT UPS for sale here. It works very well, I've plugged my 2011 iMac, Wacom Cintiq and nest cam into it, if power trips it kicks in immediately (no software required), I'm sure it has a decent charge but I've never wanted to run it out fully to see how long the charge lasts. My computer's happy. BTW, whatever you do, don't try and install the Mac software. It really messed up my computer, had to run some command-line stuff to get it working, and my computer kept crashing thereafter. Luckily I restored from a Time Machine backup. You don't need the software, Mac doesn't automatically pick it up as a UPS either, so don't even install the USB cable. When the power trips, it comes on instantly and beeps - that's all you need to casually save your work and shut down the machine, or if it's a small power trip, the beeping stops soon after. This UPS has saved me from many small power trips, paid for itself quickly.
Paulo, South Africa. 3 September 2014
I haven't really tested the battery life yet, but impressed so far.
It's larger than a standard UPS, the size being 397 x 146 x 205mm (D x W x H).
Power outputs are as follows: 4 standard computer plug outputs and 2 full-size standard South African 3-pin plug outputs.
Great product, highly recommended!
Kashif, South Africa. 23 February 2015
Works as expected :)
WYNAND, South Africa. 6 May 2015
nice product will test it now and will do a follow up as soon as I have test it.
Michael, South Africa. 15 February 2015
Had the device about two weeks and I'm very happy with it.
Use it to power my desktop pc, router, mikrotik board and external harddrive.
Last about 15min to 20mins. If i power off my pc it can keep my internet and wifi going for 2 hours plus.
The fan can be a bit noisy when the power goes off, but other than that its a really nice device.
Simon, South Africa. 6 February 2015
A good product that delivers as expected. The only downside is the alarm that beeps every 10 seconds and there doesn't seem to be any way to disable it. If anyone has figured this out I'd love a solution.
Oh, and the lack of a kettle cord in the box, which is strange.
David, South Africa. 18 February 2015
The UPS works well. I have connected the PC and two screens. However the associated software does not work with Windows XP, and I have had to delete it.
Brandon, South Africa. 29 April 2015
Working perfectly, No problems
Louis, South Africa. 5 October 2016
very good product
Andrew, South Africa. 26 March 2015
Easy to set up and works well. The annoying "power-failure UPS beep" can be switched off in the software interface - this is a huge pro!
Mike, South Africa. 27 May 2015
Extremely loud unit even when nothing is attached to it.
Mark Nicholson, South Africa. 22 October 2016
Bought mine from Takealot on 18 April 2015. Noticed it stopped functioning 22 October 2016. Got 18 months out of it. The warranty is 12 months. It was used to power / protect an ADSL router (Telkom), Apple Mac Mini and an Apple AirPort Extreme (router) - not a big load. I did have an Eskom fault about a month ago; the next day my Digital pool pump timer was blown, so it could've been related to that power incident. However, that is what a UPS is designed to protect from in the first place.
Lucienne, South Africa. 5 September 2015
Not only is it keeping my computer alive during the 2½-hour power cuts, it also keeps my credit card machine and Wifi connected. And it is not even empty after 2½ hours.
Gerhard, South Africa. 5 February 2015
Very Nice Product Monitoring Software Sucks but it works!!
Francois D. H., South Africa. 24 April 2015
The right product at the correct time for the right price THANKS!!!
Timothy, South Africa. 4 July 2016
Good product. Works well. Last very long. Software is not great. Very buggy. Downloaded later version online.Fixed up most issues.
David, South Africa. 16 February 2015
Product works well as intended. Shipped with newish version of software. Alarm beep can be toggled off through the software.
kevin, South Africa. 22 May 2015
This is great during load shedding.
Leonard, South Africa. 15 September 2016
Excellent value for money. I run 42" TV, router, raspberry pi and external hard drive for well over 3 hours on this.
Les, South Africa. 25 February 2015
Deleivered super-promptly, securely packaged. Running quietly under my desk now, powering desktop, router, printer, weather station, bedside clock as well as my low wattage kitchen lights and solar panel controller. During the last loadshed, I added even extra load and the internal batteries coped well, after a half an hour, I still had 40% battery capacity. Fan only audible while delivering inverter power. Downloaded "ViewPower" UPS management software, and can monitor load, battery voltage etc, as well as silence beeper from the PC.
Gerard, South Africa. 5 December 2014
Nice little box, does well, everything I wanted.
It also runs off a generator unlike the small ones available here.
I use a Raspberry Pi to monitor via USB.
Deon, South Africa. 17 July 2015
It works as advertised - There is no connection for external battery connection as one user wrote.
It is also NOT a 12 volt system as it has 2 x NPW45-12 batteries in series (2x12v = 24 volt)
My flat screen TV and DSTV explora only lasts 25 minutes - so extra batteries will be required.
Not too happy but then you get what you pay for :)
Andrew, South Africa. 2 December 2014
Product has a decent battery life, but does not charge when plugged into a generator which was my main requirement.
Anton, South Africa. 30 May 2015
Anza, South Africa. 22 February 2015
Does the job
Peter, South Africa. 21 July 2016
2 years consistently running a very large printer. No faults. Lasts 1:45 under no load. With a moderate load you may get 30min to an hour ( printer /pc)
Good price. But maybe I should buy a pure sine wave for expensive equipment???
THE ALARM IS LOAD!
Werner, South Africa. 28 August 2014
Got my Bravia TV, Home Theater System, Xbox, PC and 2 external drives plugged into it and it handles it without effort. Very quiet and works brilliantly. Highly recommended product.
Stephen, South Africa. 26 September 2014
The device works really well. My only concern is that for home use, the alarm that sounds every 10 seconds when on battery mode is irritating.
Alan, South Africa. 6 April 2015
Perfect for my needs, and allows you to add on extra battery power for longer standby time. Great little machine.
Gerhard, South Africa. 5 March 2015
JP, South Africa. 22 September 2014
Working great so far
Justin, South Africa. 8 February 2015
Very happy with this UPS. I am using it to keep my ADSL Modem, A 23" LCD screen and a landline online . So far it works great and has lasted through the load shedding. It has a few bonuses like ethernet and phone line surge protection. The software is quite nice and gives a good view of what is happening to the UPS. I even tested it out on a DSTV decoder and a 55" LCD tv and it lasted really well.
I have two small complaints
1. I like to switch off the beeping sound it makes when there is no power. You can do this easily from the interface, however if the UPS is switched off, this setting is lost and needs to be re applied
2. It does not come with a standard power cable to power it. That's quite a let down if you don't have one on hand. It's the standard desktop computer power cable
Shuaib, South Africa. 21 May 2015
items exactly as described
recived in perfect timbing
Andrei, South Africa. 9 March 2015
Very good ups for the money.
The included software works 100% in windows 8.1, the software runs in your web browser, eg if you use google chrome and you run the software it will run in a new tab in your browser.
The software is great for keeping an eye on your ups battery, turning of the alarm, setting your scheduler, accessing your ups via the internet sms, etc.
I found the software interface to be very professional looking, easy to use and free of any bugs!
I use the UPS to power 2 gaming PCs and their monitors, both PCs are used for graphics design and gaming now and then.
Ive not had a blackout since recieving my UPs so Ive tetsted it by putting one computer under full load, cpu and the gpu and then playing a demanding game on the other computer.
The ups was able to power both in this situation for atleast 10 - 15 mins.
Im sure it will be able to power two computers for much longer, atleast 30 mins when just using them to do some browsing, or any work that isnt very cpu and graphic intensive, eg like gaming or doing rendering.
Im very happy with the product and would recommend it to anyone looking for a decent ups at a fair price.
Tim, South Africa. 10 March 2015
Great product! Quieter than I thought it would be in operation and so far does just what Takealot says it will do.
Only advice (and seems obvious but often needs a reminder...) Make sure that you read the .pdf instructions on the CD and not rely on the one pager in the box... will save you time setting up and getting the viewing software to work...
Pieter, South Africa. 17 February 2015
I am satisfied works as advertised. Only problem is that a power connection cable to mains is not included in the package
Timothy, South Africa. 6 April 2015
Decent power but the fan comes on randomly even when the power is on and the unit is fully charged
Aniel, South Africa. 6 July 2016
Very well designed at the back, giving you the ports you need for a whole PC system with two monitors connected to it! The fan is loud when it runs on battery but that is necessary to get the UPS to cool down.
Tim, South Africa. 15 April 2015
Suffered lengthy "load shedding" yesterday and the UPS ran for nearly two hours! (powering a desktop, wireless routers, HP deskjet printer and LED desk lamp. Software easy to use and, once setup, operated flawlessly in shutting down PC, followed by UPS.Unfortunately alarm on/off needs to be reset after each "event" but easy to do with Viewpower software.
So far very happy with choice of UPS!
Willem, South Africa. 5 September 2015
Easy to install
I love it with loadshedding :)
i run my tv and wifi and 1 led lamp ... nice
Luis, South Africa. 28 March 2016
mandy, South Africa. 30 December 2016
Great Product at a Great price, the RTC make has to date not given any problems
Patricia, South Africa. 4 August 2016
In times of power surges, this is the best way to protect your PC! The best and quickest way to purchase is via Takealot. Always on time!
Dave, South Africa. 7 August 2015
this will not run a dstv as other writers suggest it only works for a small computer system not satisfied at all , would give it less than one star if i could
Mike, South Africa. 6 July 2016
Excellent value for money. Only problem is inaccuracy by 10 volts of AC voltage values reported on the computer software.
