A UPS is not designed to provide continuous power, merely a window period that allows a computer or other user to finalise the work at hand and shut down. It's ability to do this is dependent on the number of devices connected to the UPS.
To establish what you can and cannot connect, calculate the total wattage you need to supply and ensure that the UPS you purchase meets that requirement.

Excellent product, highly recommended. Using this to power my wireless router and cordless phone base during load shedding and it's working great.
Patrick, South Africa. 17 February 2015
Works well out the box. Plenty of time to shut down and save data, I have tested on a PC for up to 10 minutes, and I haven't bothered testing past that point. It has enough juice to run a router (with the PC and screen off, but still plugged in) for the full 2.5hr load shedding.
The battery will need to be replaced after 6 months to a year, but it uses a standard 12v 7ah battery, as used with an alarm systems etc.
Brad, South Africa. 23 February 2015
Works well. The software that interfaces with your PC is excellent. It keeps a record of everything, and can shut down your computer automatically when the power fails, or remotely via the internet. It allows you to plug in 2x "kettle plugs" - one for a monitor, and one for your pc, as well as a three pin plug, something you won't often find in a ups. This allows you to add a multi adapter and add protection for your speakers and router etc.
There is also an adapter for plugging in your ADSL telephone line so that a lightning strike wont pop your router.
According to the diagnostics, our PC is only using about 20% of the capacity, so 650VA is plenty.
Please note, this will not allow you to carry on working indefinitely during a power failure, (obviously) but will give you ten fifteen minutes or so to save your work, and shut down, and will protect against power surges when the electricity comes back on.
The only thing I don't like about it is the back panel is a little flimsy. it seems to flex a bit while plugging and unplugging the cables.
Willem, South Africa. 8 October 2016
Works decent enough but note that it does not come with a cable that goes from the UPS to the wall socket. I had to cut the one cable and add a three point plug in order for it to work. I bought it for my fish tank filter pump which gets an air bubble every time the power goes off. It didn't really solve my problem, but it should work with a computer.
Valentino, South Africa. 22 June 2015
I connected it today. My entire desk is running off it. Radio, laptop, screen, modem and router and external hard drives. At least now when he power goes down I still have internet and it doesn't break my hard drives.
Jason, South Africa. 27 May 2015
Works as expected. Only issue is the beeping noise, especially when load-shedding happens late at night or early morning.
Steve, South Africa. 8 February 2017
Easy to set up, software installs easily from the cd, works fine ....
Helgard, South Africa. 27 February 2015
Good products, nice that your get the male toe female kettle cords.
Not in teh product description is that it also has a std RSA 3 plug output so laptop charger or multiplug with PC and screen can be connected without the need of special cables and plugs.
Kabir, South Africa. 17 June 2015
Pretty good thus far, I bought it to power my adsl router during load shedding, I haven't given it a complete test thus far.
A nice litte feature is that the UPS comes with a plug socket, thus negating the need to make a make shift conversion to power your router.
Don, South Africa. 6 October 2015
Good price, does what it is meant to
Philip, South Africa. 13 May 2015
I bought it to back up my DSTV decoders, remote telephones and fax machine and my TV. This proofed to be a little too much for the battery. If I switch off the TV within 2 minutes of loosing power, it supplies the rest. I knew the battery would not last long with powering the TV, but I bought it primarily to prevent electrical surges when I place my generator in service. It has been working fine for this application. I a sure that I can more batteries, but it is not needed.
Pieter, South Africa. 14 April 2015
Keeps my ADSL router active for 4 hours. Handy when there is load shedding....
Bernard, South Africa. 28 July 2015
What I didn't know when I bought this is that it contains a "normal" 3 prong plug on the back, and not just standard computer cable plugs (like the cable you use to power a screen from the computer box). So you can plug an adaptor to fit a power transformer for your router as well. It also have 2 "computer" plugs.
Then it also contains a telephone line surge protector sockets, so you can plug your telephone line into them to protect your router or cordless phone from surges/lightning.
It comes with PowerView software that work on both Windows and Linux.
Michael, South Africa. 25 June 2015
Gets my ADSL Router through 2 hours of load shedding with ease keeping me on the internet and saving mobile data. Actually it has lasted through 4 hours of loadshedding, but unfortunately the local ADSL exchange's batteries die after two hours so can't really test if it would last the full 4 hours under intensive use. I think it would easily though based on the battery usage. Recommended.
Johann, South Africa. 11 May 2015
Works great, especially during the frequent loadshedding!!!
Adrian, South Africa. 6 January 2017
Really great product. Don't mind the beeping so much because it works well. The only issues i found is that the back panel feels a bit flimsy when plugging things in and it didn't come with a power cable (was annoying trying to find one to buy). Other than that i would recommend this to anyone with a low budget for a UPS.
Kobie, South Africa. 29 April 2015

Does what it says on the box.
Mine arrived without a power cable.
Too much of a schlep to send it back.
Gerhard, South Africa. 27 February 2015
Value for money. 10/10
This is an affordable UPS essential in South-Africa.
Gives you more than enough time to save your documents and safely power down your computer.
These units has a lifespan of 18 to 24 months, which is very good.
Andre, South Africa. 10 March 2016
This UPS is absolute rubbish.
I bought it 9 months ago and it can't keep a router and a modem going for more than a couple of hours. In that period, we could not have gone through more than 20-30 charging cycles.
Buying cheap is expensive.
Johann, South Africa. 3 March 2015
It works as expected. Price is right. It has one 3 pin SA plug (fantastic). Plus it is completely noiseless! Used for a week now. Will hopefully last long. Fast delivery from Takelot!

Very pleased with this UPS.
Had to use it the same day that it was delivered!
Mike, South Africa. 19 May 2015
Bought one of these devices to keep my DSTV Decoder up during loadshedding as I was getting tired of the decoder coming up with an "error 53" every now and then. Bonus is that my DSTV recordings continue to record during loadshedding and my decoder never goes down. As an added bonus I connected a lampstand with a LED glode. Now when the power goes down at night there is no darkness even for a second. So far, the UPS has keep both devices up and running thru the 2½ hour period.
lee, South Africa. 6 July 2015
I'm super impressed. Mine arrived today. I didn't even charge it and it kept my pc running for 45 mins. Need to figure out how to stop the beeping. Or disconnect the speaker.
Bradley, South Africa. 17 June 2015
This UPS works incredibly well to keep my ADSL router powered during load shedding, lasts the full 2.5 hours no problem!
Mark, South Africa. 6 May 2015
This little unit is excellent value for money, does what all the big boys do for a fraction of the price. I wont repeat what has been said here, but will add that there is monitoring software included comes in versions for Windows, Mac and Linux and communicates via the provided USB cable. Im running Linux Mint 17.1 on an HP Proliant microserver and the auto shutdown demon and GUI installed perfectly although I had to download an updated version of the software for my 64 bit OS. The provided options are flexible and it will even notify me via email if there is an AC failure or battery issue if required. The battery is sufficient to cater for a 10min warning and auto-shutdown, and the UPS can be configured to continue running (to power say a wifi router) after the server is shutdown or switch off its inverter altogether to save battery power (as an example of one of the many options).
Joseph, South Africa. 8 June 2015
So Far so Good. . . Expected Less, but got something a bit better that expected. Now just hopes it lasts and do the necessary. Down side software changes to ups quite restricted expected more, but overall good purchase and worth the money.
Jedd, South Africa. 16 April 2015
With all the loadshedding, I bought this for the office, and bought one for home for my PC and router, and it works really well.
Power went out last night, and it managed to power my laptop, router and external drives for the two hours that the power was off. This was even without the full four hour charge that it requires.
Its great to have the normal three prong plug connection on the UPS to be able to plug in an extension lead or a multiplug point.
You have to get a kettle plug power cable for it though, as it doesn't come with one, but I had from an old PC so wasn't too hassled about that.
They only cost R50 on Takealot though so its still a bargain for the price.

Perfect for keeping the ADSL modem/Wifi-router running during loadshedding
Rodwell, South Africa. 20 May 2015
I have had this UPS for like 3 months now and i must say I am happy with it. Had an outage today and i still managed to continue watching my programs on DSTV pvr until power came back. Also use it for my adsl and it never goes flat before power returns. This is a must have. Especially at the price its going for. I highly recommend this product
Nicholas, South Africa. 29 August 2015
I purchased the above UPS last week. What an amazing device. Easy to set up. Worked well when our electricity tripped the other day. Best thing I have ever purchased.
Francoisc, South Africa. 24 June 2015
It keeps beeping when the power is off. The software to disable the beep only works on windows. I don't need a alarm to tell me the power is off.
JP, South Africa. 6 September 2016
Always like these!
Brett, South Africa. 4 May 2015
I am completely blown away by the fact that it doesn't come with a power cord. Seems a bit weird to sell a product that you need to charge first before it becomes useful, but there is no way to charge it unless you have a PC or kettle with the old style plug. Which I didn't.
James, South Africa. 8 April 2015
Does what it does
bruno, South Africa. 27 July 2015
I bought two of these. I'm using the one to run a 40W bulp during loadshedding. Unfortunately only lasts about 2h instead of 2.5h. also the constant beep every 10 sec cam be annoying since ot can't be switched off.
the second one I use to run my internet router plus wlan device. thatone too lasts for about 2h only.
Rickus, South Africa. 2 June 2015
No problems great for load shedding...keeps my router on for 3 hours
Paul, South Africa. 15 June 2015
It just works. At the price, you won't be sorry.
Ethan, South Africa. 5 May 2015
Use this to keep my adsl modem going during loadshedding. Goes the full 2 hours and I can continue to work from my laptop. Now I don't have to keep buying mobile data.
Jan, South Africa. 3 May 2015
Works well. Great value for money.
Asanda, South Africa. 22 June 2015
I use it to power my 32 inch Samsung TV which uses 56W. I am sure a whole lot less when I change it to eco mode. It keeps my TV powered for the duration of loadshedding.
I do not use DSTV so I have only tested it with playing stuff from external hard drive.
I had issues with the APP on my Apple Computer but that's not a biggie at this stage cause I just want to watch TV during loadshedding. I highly recommend
Marco, South Africa. 6 August 2015
Purchased this UPS primarily to keep the WiFi going during load shedding and a laptop/tablet device charging (be sure to understand your load support requirements before buying a 650 VA unit), good value for the price point, the 15A SA plug socket at the back is a product advantage. Disadvantage is the lack of a mains kettle cord which is not supplied (otherwise would have been 5 star rating) so unless you have one handy you will not be able to connect on delivery. Simple to connect and operate.
Duon, South Africa. 17 May 2015
This might not be the best quality on the market but rest assured that this little cheapy is worth its weight in gold. We are using three of these units.
I have removed the original battery and connected a 210 a/h battery to the units with a solar panel and regulator to keep the batteries charged. I would like to mention that the 1st Unit that we modified is still running strong after 18 months and it was worth to take the chance to modify the units.
With this modification I can run my workstations for at least 24 hours without the grid or sunshine.
Kirsten, South Africa. 15 July 2015
I use this UPS to run my DSTV Explorer. I did replace the standard 12v 7a/h battery with a 9 a/h one just to last a bit longer. Works great. Lasts about 3 hours on battery.

Good value for money.
Pierrette, South Africa. 18 April 2016
No power cable in box and on borrowed cable does not appear to be charging.
Seems that this product is not functional - highly disappointed.
Johan, South Africa. 22 November 2016
It works well as expected.
