Inovative 3D V-NAND technology
Samsung’s unique and innovative 3D V-NAND flash memory architecture is a breakthrough in overcoming the density limitations, performance and endurance of today’s conventional planar NAND architecture. 3D V-NAND is fabricated by stacking 32 cell layers vertically over one another rather than decreasing the cells dimensions and trying to fit itself onto a fixed horizontal space resulting in higher density and better performance utilising a smaller footprint.
Optimise daily computing with TurboWrite technology
Achieve the ultimate read/write performance to maximise your everyday computing experience with Samsung’s TurboWrite technology. You not only obtain more than a 10% better user experience than 840 EVO but up to 1.9x faster random write speeds for 120/250 GB models as well. The 850 EVO delivers the top of its class performance in sequential read (540 MB/s) and write (520 MB/s) speeds.

Really enjoying using this ssd. Was very easy to use the software provided to transfer my current operating system onto the new ssd.
Major difference in loading times from my old hard drive.

Easy file transfer. This drive just flies.

Bought the Samsung SSD to upgrade my early 2011 MacBook Pro. Massive boot up speed and apps opening very quickly. Installed the drive very easily but had to a PRAM reset to get SSD speed. This upgrade will give me a few more years of service and save me money. Samsung could include a SATA USB adapter to transfer data and to clone the SSD. Had to buy an external enclosure to do this.

Bought the 850 Evo because I wanted to replace the harddisc on my laptop, a Toshiba Satellite L50, with a fast SSD. Installing it has been nothing but a pain in the behind and even know, a week later, its still not working. First, the SSD does not come with a SATA to USB cable. This means cloning your hard disk with the Samsung utilities that come with the SSD isn't possible they can't recognise the SSD if its not connected to a SATA cable. Took me a day to figure this out and ended up using Macrium reflect to clone the harddisc(which took 6 hours). So, next step, setting up the hard disc on the laptop. And realizing that the laptop doesn't recognize the SSD no matter what you do. It seems like a BIOS issue with the laptop and its a common problem with Toshiba's. Moral of the story...if you want to use the above SSD as a replacement for your laptop harddisc, do yourself a favor and google first to find out if its possible. If you have a Toshiba, don't bother. Look for another SSD. And also make sure you purchase a SATA to USB cable (not enclosure, that doesn't help)

Great little drive.
Pros: excellent cloning software included
Cons: no mounting hardware. Nothing. No screws, no nothing. Will need to buy cable, tray as wel as screws if it goes into desktop.
Comes formatted in udf format. Takes some computer know how to get it workable into ntfs or fat.

This drive is really fast, boots up in 45 seconds, getting read/write speeds at about 500mb/s on 6Gbps. Something things to take note of:
1) Get a 2.5" to 3.5" bracket for desktop
2) Update your bios
3) For some reason the SSD would not work with a SATA2 cable, works fine with SATA3 cable (although many claim there is no difference)
4) If you have Intel and Asmedia 6Gbps sata controllers, use Intel instead of Asmedia as it can limit performance (Install Intel sata3 drivers to show up in Windows)
5) Use a cloning software to clone your drive, I used Acronis 2016 (Painless cloning to smaller SSD) but Samsung Magician could work as well
6) Make sure you connect it to a 6Gbps port to get full performance
Just my own experience to make the install as smooth as possible for others.

Awesome product. Easy install with not a single issue. Saved my laptop and managed to copy data from failing HDD to this one. You will need a sata/usb cable to do this (extra purchase). Laptop working faster than ever before. Prices still need to come down a bit...

Delighted with product

Love it, I assembled it myself and it made a big difference to the speed of my MacBook.

Very smooth transition from HDD to SSD. Happen to be easier than I thought

I had bought this to update my wife's 2008 MacBook Pro 15" (I had previously updated the RAM to 16GB to extend the system's lifespan) and this may just be the most cost-effective update possible.
Mac OS X 10.10 boots in seconds and is available for use, logged in with her usual apps open and ready, in well under a minute.
This should, quite easily, give us another 3 to 4 years usage, which means that, instead of junking this when my wife gets her new MacBook we will be able to repurpose this one for my daughter instead of purchasing a separate one for her.

I purchased this SSD to upgrade my Macbook Pro snd i literally installed snd booted my new SSD within 30 minutes. I am super impressed.
Robert, South Africa. 12 September 2015
Easy to install, not sure why the guy down below struggled...
If you wan't to clone your current HDD buy a HDD cloning device, would suggest a clean reload rather.
Jean, South Africa. 9 February 2016
Coming from a HDD to a SSD is a massive difference. I am still trying to adapt to the faster boot up times and loading times in apps and games.
The software included makes it as easy as pies to set this drive up as your primary OS drive. No need to reinstall anything. I had about 200Gb data on my old C drive. Took me about 40 mins to transfer the data to the this drive and boot from it.
Awesome and well worth the price.

I upgraded my MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2012 with this 500GB SSD. After I upgraded I turned my MacBook Pro on and hold down CMD + ALT + R and connected to my WiFi network so that it can start download my firmware. After I downloaded it I formatted the SSD through Disk Utilities and after that I went back to do a clean install (it downloads the OS X, in my case it was Yosemite, through the connected WiFi network) and set up my MacBook all from start.
What you need to do the upgrade:
-Samsung Evo 850 500GB SSD
-Torx T6 screwdriver (to remove the screws on side of old HDD and to put it on the new SSD)
You don't need to be an expert to do this upgrade, go to youtube and search: "How to upgrade SSD on MacBook Pro Mid 2012" and you will know exactly how to do the upgrade.
Please remember to work on a flat, soften area so that you don't damage your MacBook's body.

Works brilliantly on my PC once I got it working.
There is nothing else in the box besides the software CD and paperwork, so for a desktop you need an additional SATA cable, SATA power connection and mounting bracket. The supplied manual also recommends a USB-SATA adapter in order to clone (cloning may be possible in a desktop via a direct SATA cable connection, I didn't try). I am running Windows 10 and needed to download the latest migration software as the supplied software was outdated and gave errors.
It was worth the expense and effort in getting it installed, as my PC now runs super-fast and very smoothly.

Super Duidelik ekse! I opened my laptop popped it in and installed windows....IN 10 minutes!
The speeds are insane, it looks great and the Samsung Magician program really helps with the speed.
Martin, South Africa. 19 September 2016
Does what it says on the box. Really excellent value for performance and durability.
I've been using multiple 250GB 850 EVO drives over the past 2 years and some have over 100TB of writes on them already. No hick-ups across 4 drives. I'm sure the 500GB will be no different.
Sydney, South Africa. 25 April 2016
There is no doubt that this is the best consumer grade SSD you can buy. At least until the 950 EVO
Philip, South Africa. 2 May 2016
Replaced my old HDD with this SSD and was very impressed with the improvement in performance. For those who are thinking of buying this for a desktop machine, just bare in mind that it doesn't come with cables, mounting screws, etc. It is literally just the drive itself. However, the drive is phenomenally fast :)
Adrian, South Africa. 31 March 2016
Great. Works well. I put it in my MacBook Pro and the performance improvement is fantastic.
Charl, South Africa. 18 October 2016
Really good product. All the bad reviews are from people who don't know much about ordering computer parts.
