StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm is the first expansion to the 2010 release of the heralded Real-Time strategy game, StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. Heart of the Swarm features a new campaign continuing the epic story of Sarah Kerrigan, Queen of Blades, as she gathers the remnants of the Zerg Swarm and plots her revenge against the treacherous dictator of the Koprulu sector, Arcturus Mengsk. It also introduces several new multiplayer units and features.

Is that price a joke? I understand it's a Blizzard game and they are usually pricier than most games, but seriously. The collector's edition will probably cost around R2000 at this rate.

OK this isn't a review so much as a comment. R529 for an expansion pack?!??!! I realize this isn't TakeaLots fault. But Really!
Bryan, South Africa. 2 October 2012
I agree. Complete ripoff charging R529 for an expansion. Nevermind the 5 year wait....

The negative reviews come from people who didn't do their homework. SC2 has been split into 3 FULL games in order to fully cover the scope of each race's story via separate campaigns. Heart of the Swarm is going to be just like Wings of Liberty. It will feature a FULL single-player campaign. Blizzard has every right to charge this price. They did it for Wings of Liberty and Diablo 3. This release has far more scope/content than say, The Fronze Throne did when compared to Warcraft 3.

Unreasonably priced :( I will not bother buying this game. Blizzard has been disappointing ever since the launch of D3.

Cant wait to play this, hope they've made the challenges more thrilling.
R385 for this seems well priced if you take the Digital copy from Bliz costs R450 if you order directly. And with this you actually get the game, and beta.

I won't support this...
In the past all single player campaigns featured in one box.
This is pure greed.
I haven't bought Diablo 3 and will skip on this as well.

This game is going to be GREAT! Can't WAIT for the new campaign. The price is entirely reasonable as well. These stingy people should be ashamed! Its rather cheap for such a superb game! Haters gonna hate!

I bought the game and starting playing the BETA. Some very good changes in the new expansion, the game even looks better.

Maybe a bit pricey for an expansion, but if you're a fan of Starcraft, and you've got a decent internet connection (considering we're in SA), then this AAA quality game from Blizzard is definitely worth the buck.

Think carefully before buying the retail version. You will need to download up to 8 gig in any case. The box will make a nice coaster for your beer. The DVD is useless. You cannot install from it.
If you are paying per Gig, you will probably end up paying between R 1000 - R 2000 before you even get to play. That's a lot of money for an expansion.
Very disappointing, but Blizzard probably doesn't realize South Africa does not have EU internet options.

Does anyone know if you need Wings of Liberty to play this expansion or can you just buy and play online/campaign?
Brad, South Africa. 7 October 2013
Love this game! Campaign was an awesome continuation from SCII and the multiplayer is amazing. I did have an issue while installing it from the disc, but I renamed the folder where Wings of Liberty was installed to and the installation ran fine after that.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Terran campaign in Wings of Liberty. Heart of the Swarm continues the story with a full Zerg campaign. Highly recommended.
Additionally, the online competitive ranked match play is awesome. Just click play at any time and you are matched with someone of similar skill within about a minute!

the game itself is fun, and everything you'd expect from the starcraft franchise.
however, what detracts from the review of this purchase is that you're paying for an activation code, not the installation disk. the collectable merch included is very cool, but the 14gig download I had to endure before playing is not.

2 Years after buying the game, I can honestly say that this was a very good buy. I have never even played the single player campaign since I bought it for on-line multi player. So much fun and many players. This means that I can find a game within seconds at any time of the day. Also play 2v2 and 3v3 often with friends. Good to see that the player base is still very active 2 years after release (unlike COD and most other modern multi player games). I don't expect this to change any time soon, so this is still a good buy, even today.

What a great expansion at a great price. Blizzard just offers the best games, ALWAYS!

An awesome 2nd chapter. As usual blizzard gives an immersive experience even to a casual strategy gamer.
