From the opening sequence the film never drops below the red line. Roaring along at breakneck speed, Dom (Vin Diesel) and his crew meet on the streets of L.A. each night to show off their high-powered racers. When new guy Brian (Paul Walker) wants to add his fuel to the fire, he can't getup the money to race, but offers up his car as collateral. In their tiny jacked compacts, Dom, Brian, and Edwin (Ja Rule) burst into a high-gear race with Brian nearly beating perennial champion Dom. But in the final moments, he loses the race and his car. Brian's debt is quickly cleared, however, when he saves Dom both from the cops and from a potentially violent encounter with Johnny Tran (Rick Yune), a rival gang lord. Dom takes Brian under his wing--a decision that disgusts his gang but delights his sister Mia

Last night we attended a preview screening of The Fast & The Furious held by SK at the Tyger Valley Shopping Center. Before the show started the host for the evening did warn us that the volume had been set at a certain level, and boy he wasn't kidding. The Fast & The Furious is the loudest movie I've heard in a long long time. Movies set at similar high decibel levels date back to the good old days of loud DTS at the V & A , with movies such as Stargate, True Lies and Saving Private Ryan.

The Fast & The Furious was set at least that loud and perhaps a touch more. From the opening credits a constant relentless aural and visual barrage on the senses ensued.

So yes it was loud but what is the movie about you ask? Simple put the movie is about fast cars and the men and woman who race them in illegal street races. Although the stars of the movie might be Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, the real stars here are the souped up motor vehicles used. Not being an expert on the street car sub culture, The Fast & The Furious does seem to try and echo some of the ethos involved, such as the lavish amounts of money which is spent trying to create the ultimate racing vehicle. Wait, that almost sounds like F1 racing.

Suffice to say, if you like your movies loud and fast, filled with fast cars and hot babes or enjoyed Gone on 60 Seconds, then you are sure the find this movie very enjoyable. It should be a real treat when it is released on DVD a few months from now.
