Once an SA Idol, always an SA Idol... Not if you’re Graeme Watkins! If anyone has broken the mould and shocked the music scene, it’s Graeme. As the RUNNER-UP on IDOLS SEASON 5 in 2009, Graeme Watkins was not going to fall in the Idols mould created by SA Idols contestants in the past. The Graeme Watkins Project (GWP) has emerged out of nowhere and with the release of their first single, “Music Affair”, South Africa is listening and the fans can’t believe the music they are making. GWP brings a dirty, edgy, rough approach to a medley of pop, indie, rock and electronic genres. Channelling influences such as “The Springbok Nude girls”, “Boo!”, “The Killers” and even a hint of “Depeche Mode”, this unique sound is bound to inject a splice of energy into every listener. The Graeme Watkins Project (GWP) is not just about Graeme, it’s made up of phenomenal musicians who can stand proud in their own musical right: Ryno Zeelie plays Lead Guitar, Rudo Pieterse on Bass and Matthew Marinus on drums. This unit has managed to break the “cookie-cutter” mould of stereotypically SA Pop-Rock by producing a handful of fresh, new original tracks – each lined with raw, pure emotion … pretty much exactly what everyone, not only the SA Music scene, desperately needs right now.
