Emilio Estevez writes and directs this road trip drama set along the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route in southern France and northern Spain. Martin Sheen stars as Tom Avery, who travels from his hometown in California to France to reclaim the body of his estranged adult son who died in a storm at the start of the famous route in the Pyrenees. Driven by grief and a desire to reach some kind of understanding of his dead son, Tom decides to embark on the 800km pilgrimage himself.
Along the way he meets other pilgrims from around the world, all of whom share the search for meaning and direction in their lives.

I am researching the Camino in order to do it sometime & I would recommend that anyone attempting the same watch this DVD as it gives you a view of what it really is like out there!

I enjoyed the movie, although it gave a somewhat distorted view of how much effort is needed to prepare for walking the Camino! It was fun to see places that I had walked through, although the skip from Burgos to Santiago was rather unrealistic and didn't show the Iron Cross, or any of the Meseta , or Galicia. The quality of the DVD was also somewhat problematic, it froze in a couple of places. I guess that could also have been due to the machine, though this has not happened before.

A good watch for parents and adult children. It adressess the communication barriers we often create ourselves, and made me think about really knowing what my adult Christian children want in life; what their expectations are from this world and what parents' changing role encompass.I plan to walk El Camino next year and a friend recommended this movie - I loved the scenery, the dynamic and surprising interaction with others and how real these relations are portrayed.
