It is small, unobtrusive and a cheap way to stream content to your second TV. If you use it as a primary media centre you will be disappointed.
Pros: great remote control, wide format support, wifi below R1000.
Cons: sluggish UI, can mount underneath a TV that is already mounted on a wall.

Superb media player. Small, efficient, affordable and it handles all the latest media formats with ease.

I bought this product after reading many positive reviews. Unfortunately, it is probably the only media player on the market without volume control. One would assume that the arrow buttons would allow volume control during playback, but they do not - it seems that adjusting the subtitle position is more important to WD than volume. There are numerous complaints on the Western Digital forums about this issue, but no firmware fix.

Loses SMB shares on a regular basis, and the WiFi streaming is beyond slow (even on small SD video files).

Amazing little player, loses signal occasionally though on streamed radio stations through wi-fi, has to reset manually.
Otherwise best small player i've come across

awesome media player.

Bought this player few months back.
Awesome. Value for money. Played everything I could throw at it. Looks amazing. Bit slow on menu browsing but its good trade-off for being able to play just about any video file
Ruan, South Africa. 12 February 2014
Extremely slow and sluggish. Takes about 1min to switch on and 15-30mins to compile library on an external hard drive. Supports most formats as stated on the box, except for some mkv's. It loses the external hard drive when the box is switched off and I disconnect the HDD and connect it again. I have to start the box, unplug the HDD and replug it then it has to connect to the USB device which takes a while and then rebuild the media library.
Apps are just as slow and sluggish.
Nic, South Africa. 26 September 2012
The only media player you need.

Awesome device - it's small, light, links to our home wifi and plays HD movies perfectly!

After evaluating allot of options for my home network I've found that this little gadget does everything.

Bought to be used in connection with the WD live HDD. Connects fast and plays most formats. Gets a tad slow on youtube and sometimes takes awhile to load if you're skipping ahead. Worth it for the price.

If you want a device that can read pretty much any media type - this is the one. I've yet to find a file type that WD TV Live couldn't play. There're a few kinks to this however and hence the 4 stars - compiling media library took almost 3 days for my network attached 2Tb drive, which is way too long for my liking. Switching the device on after it's being switched off doesn't always work from the remote - you have to resort to unplugging the power cable and plugging it back in. The interface itself is very intuitive and works well, however going from item to item takes a few seconds at a time - a little better response would be welcome. WD TV Remote for Android works very well with the device, however for the life of me I can't figure out how to get a numeric keypad up when I want to skip to a specific time in a movie or show.

This is undoubtedly the best Streaming Media Player in my house, It was so easy (after firm ware updates) to get working
My only prob;lem is the home network needs a bit of attention from me as I am running Windows 7 and Vista and this is causing the slightest glitches
William, South Africa. 15 April 2014
Quick and easy setup.
Suggest not using the media library as I just use folder view which makes more sense to me.
Links to my WDTV Live Hub easily and accesses 4TB NAS in seconds.
Full HD Bluray plays best over cable, but wireless ok for most peoples needs.
Good product / Good value for money.
