Great for Personal Cloud Storage
Brevan, South Africa. 20 June 2014
Awesome product. I love it. I just wish the documentation was a bit clearer on how to access your configuration settings. It tells you how to download the application to access and manage the device, but not how to access the configuration settings.
I knew how to configure the device because I have a MyBook live as well and you access the configuration in the same way.

Greatest product I bought in a while.
Easy to set up. Very user friendly.
A lot of storage with handy features.

The only reason why it’s not getting 5 stars is you can’t copy files to the device directly from your pc via USB, you have to copy, move, delete, etc in the “web” interface. Besides that it is a great product which is easy to install and use.

Fantastic product does exactly what it says on the tin and very easy to setup.

I bought this device to stream media to my smart TV and it works perfectly! Backing up and transferring big amounts of data to it is very slow when you don’t have your computer and hard drive connected to a gigabit network. If you’re planning on transferring big amounts of data (20GB and more) from a wireless device, make sure that both the wireless device as well as the router/switch support either 802.11n or 802.11ac. When copying from a USB device connected on the USB 3 port at the back, it copies much faster than over the network. See western Digital’s site for software downloads and tools. Overall, I’m very impressed with this device. Good value for money and a perfect device to centralize your data to be accessible to all networked devices.

Brilliant piece of kit. Truly plug and play, and allows me to access my data from wherever I am with the WD My Cloud software, which is downloadable from the WD site. It also allows daisy-chaining, so my old, non-network enabled USB 3.0 WD MyBook HDD has been connected to the My Cloud's USB 3.0 port, and I can now access that HDD as well without having to plug it in all the time.
The WD My Cloud also takes care of any compatability issues, so if you have a Mac / PC and your existing HDD is formatted incorrectly, it doesn't care. The on-board CPU takes care of the conversion algorithms, so all you see is an External Network Attached Storage Device, and you can drag and drop to your heart's content.
Truly a magnificent piece of kit. Would I buy another one? You betcha.

Great product at a very good price when you look at the size and compare it to conventional external hard drives with a power supply. I suggest having a portable external as well for when you are on the go or you can just access your files from home over the internet. Not something you would move around, but great when connected to network.
Great for backups.
Easily plays media files on Xbox 360 which is also connected to the network.

Terrible product. Sluggish software. Painfully slow. And disconnects all the time. Stay away.
Hermanus, South Africa. 24 June 2014
After a restart that was needed to turn-on SSH I came to a surprise that my drive which was plugged into the USB3 port was formatted. No warning or anything. Normally I would eject a drive if I'm doing something like this, but forgot about it and drive got formatted.
For the rest of the product I'm happy with.

Excellent speed, had some Media streaming service issues (indexing took a lot of CPU, generating excess heat) - for the rest it worked like a charm! Very good value for money

Total waste of money....
I got this to use with my MacBook pro (mid 2014) i7. The SSD on my MacBook is too small so I wanted to keep all my things on the external. The my cloud appealed to me because I could connect wirelessly. In reality though this my cloud is so slow and painful!!! Takes forever to connect to and when you do copy something to it you wait for hours. I connected directly with Ethernet cables as that is supposed to be the fastest way, lame lame lame...the write and read speeds are horrific. Eventually got all my stuff on it and tried to use it over wireless network...even worse!
I have another WD my book and that thing is lightning, using that instead of this rubbish.
No idea if it works better on windows but if you have a mac then give this a skip. Rather get an external like the my book and use that. Will suck that you can't connect wirelessly but at least it works properly.

This cloud storage works very well. But to get a better performance it should be connected via a 1GB switch.
The service and price were very good.
Abraham, South Africa. 10 May 2016
The interface is very user friendly. Much better the seagate. One thing that you need to know is that it is slow over the standard wifi that you may have in your home if you work from the cloud it self or copying to it is slow... but that is the wifi. So wire is the best for this product if you dont want to spend R2000 on a hi end router.

My 3rd drive, excellent value, does the job
MARTHINUS, South Africa. 19 January 2015
What a dissapointing piece of equiptment, its tempramental, its slow, and cumbersome. You will do much better just buying a ordinart 3 T harddrive than this overpriced piece of junk
Werner, South Africa. 7 November 2016
Very good product. Auto back-up music, photos and videos from your phone (Android and Apple). Plays movies through DLNA devices. Works great.
Can't install plex on it though, only the WD mirror cloud is able to run plex.
Pawel, South Africa. 22 December 2016
Network IO is slow, the web interface takes a redicuously long time to load, and then elements within the web UI load without any progress indicators. Overall I would not recommend the drive to anyone who wants to run multiple IO operations simultaneously (even via SSH).

Good for general home-backups and as a source from where you stream your movies/series. The remote cloud access works 60% of the time. The warranty is 2 years. After 26 months, my 3TB My Cloud just died - the controller board failed and in turn damaged the drive. To recover the data would cost between R4500 to R11 000. This is an affordable, fairly decent option, but be warned you still need to do regular backups via an external drive once a month. It is not particularly fast, or powerful, or completely reliable, but for the price it is as good as it it going to get for a home NAS.
Pieter, South Africa. 10 February 2017
Excellent product and easy to use. No more need to carry an external hard drive around anywhere. Everything on it is accessible from all the computers at home and from anywhere I am over the internet, computers and smart phones. Different user profiles makes controlling access to folders a breeze. With the software on the smart phone, taking photos automatically uploads to my personal cloud, and I need not keep it on the phone anymore.Great product.

Extremely versatile and good value for money.
