Great debut by Daniel Craig as the world's most famous secret agent. Good plot, believable story that remains faithful to Ian Fleming's dictum from 1953.
Overall two thumbs up for the movie...the local DVD release on the other hand leaves one rather shaken than stirred!
All we get is a vanilla disc with ZERO features. In the light of the recently-released Ultimate editions, with enhanced picture and dts digital sound and a plethora of features this is a real slap in the face to the afficianados.
It's a pity that the rental version is the same as the one for home use, and one cannot wonder why the honest SA consumer is left short-changed once again!
I probably see a Casino Royale Ultimate Edition released in the future, in the meantime rent this one for now!
Incidentally the 2-disc version released in the US sported the following extras on the 2d disc:
Becoming Bond: An intimate look at how Daniel Craig stepped into the role of the 6th James Bond.
James Bond: For Real: Inside look at action and stunts of film
Bond Girls Are Forever: Closer Look at Bond's Leading Ladies
Chris Cornell’s Music Video, “You Know My Name”

Nothing like the original Bond movies. Lots of action, violence and fast paced chases but lacks the charm and intrigue of the original Bond movies.

What some of the other reviewers who did not enjoy the film are forgetting is that this is supposed to be going back to the beginning, before Bond was super-suave and world renowned.
Casino Royale is James Bond's first mission as as Double 0 agent and the idea behind it is that he was a rookie, eager to impress. As a result he is more brutal than in other outings as well as being more rash - experience only comes much further down the line.
Daniel Craig is a fresh new face to go with the younger Bond and I think he suits the role perfectly. Whether or not he will be able to play the smug, suave, older Bond remains to be seen; until then, enjoy the new directions the series is taking on.
