Faber-Castell Polychromos Artist Colour Pencils - Tin of 24
Bundle deals expire when stock runs out. T&Cs apply

These are good pencils, but mostly they are overpriced and not any better than other artist grade pencils out there (regardless of the hype). When comparing them to my Lyra Rembrandt Polycolors (also artist grade, oil-based, but cheaper), it is my opinion that these (the Faber-Castell Polychromos) are inferior. While lovely, soft and smooth to colour in with, the pigment is less vivid than that of the Lyra Rembrandt Polycolors, and the paper becomes saturated with colour long before an equivalent level of vividness is reached. If one then tries to add more colour, the very oily Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils begin to smear and streak like cheap oil pastels. Yes, one can possibly add one or two more layers with the Polychromos than with the Lyras, but even with the extra layers one cannot reach the same level of richness of colour / vividness. However, one can colour in quite well with a less than perfectly sharp Faber-Castell Polychromos, while one do need to keep the Lyra Rembrandt Polycolors quite sharp for best results and experience. If you like somewhat muted colours, go for the Faber-Castell's but be aware that you will probably be paying mostly for the name rather than for any additional quality. If, however, you like rich, vivid colours and value for money, go for the Lyra Rembrandt Polycolors.

Great pencils

A very worthwhile set of oil based colour pencils. Very lightfast (*** or 7/8 on the blue wool scale) and can be blended with artist mineral spirits. Can produce really fine detail in your drawing as it holds a sharp point with little or no breakage. Very smooth and full coverage when filling in solid areas.
