It's really sad that all the bad hype this game has gotten so far will stop people from at least trying it. Most of the complaints have been towards the slowdowns, and technical issues (all fixed in the PC version), my experience with the game was not too bad, slowdowns aside, I did not experience any other issues as all. Other complaints have been it's too hard, and the battle system too complicated. I suppose this depends on what you want from a game. Yes it is hard, but its also rewarding in so many ways.
Recently I have been trying to play all the RPG's made for the Xbox 360 (Tales of Vesperia eludes me), and I have completed and enjoyed most of them (Lost Odyssey being my favourite, it's simply brilliant, Infinite Undiscovery being the worst).
So when I finaly got to play Last Remnant, I was hooked, never before has a game gripped me so, forcing me to spend over hundred hours playing every single side quest, and completing every task given to my onscreen characters. The story was captivating, the music brilliant, and the voice acting "acceptable", this means a LOT when compared to the horrible voice acting found in 90% of RPG's these days (Star Ocean 4 had the absolute WORST voice acting, and translation ever, your hero, Edge Maverick, .....really?).
The story has been covered by other reviews, but needless to say, it's pretty epic, and was the corner stone of me wanting to complete the game itself (Emma's epic solo fight was one for the books).
Give Last remnant a try if you enjoy Rpg's, this is not Obvilion though, this is a fairly standard turn based "JRPG" with a few new twists (unions). But if you enjoy these kinds of games, you can do a lot worse than The LAst Remnant, (Enchanted Arms comes to mind).
