I am going to be comparing this ink to Parker's Quink Black Ink as it's the only other black I have used.
This is a good rich black ink. It writes wetly and leaves a nice sheen as the ink hits the page. This disappears as it dries if you're worried about that.
This is a standard black ink used by many people as it is very low cost and close to being a true black (as in absolutely no grey tones).
It does not have the grey tones or shading that Parker Quink Black has although the differences are not immediately noticeable in fine or medium fountain pen nibs.
This is due in part to the wetter ink which also means it takes longer to dry. You're looking at about a twenty second dry time with a fine nib. There are inks that take longer to dry but if you're looking for an office writing ink that can dry fast enough for pages that will be turned over quickly or have a hand brushed over them quickly then document writing ink or Parker Quink is a better option.
If you want to write in journals with higher quality paper and use a black ink, then you can't go wrong with Pelikan Brilliant Black.
This product is excellent value for money and at R0.43 per ml the price is superbly competitive.

Now that I've used the ink for a while, its actually pretty terrible, will probably toss it. It takes forever to dry, and thus always smudges.
