Very easy to set up. Performance as expected. (i.e. not 500 Mbps, but definitely not the slowest part of my network) Very happy
Dean, South Africa. 21 April 2015
Great product. Worked as expected.
Yusuf, South Africa. 25 December 2014
Product works great, quick and easy to setup too! I Wish i knew of this before i wasted so much time using cat5 cable to connect my pc at back of house (upstairs) to router in the front of house (downstairs).
Shaun, South Africa. 10 July 2014
Super easy to setup, works perfectly, just don't expect 500mbit, more like 100.
Cobus, South Africa. 13 June 2016
These work brilliantly. I use them with AV600 kit so have 4 units in total installed. Just plug them in and they work.
I know that some people have difficulties if the units are plugged into different circuits but I have had no issues, I can plug them in anywhere in the house, regardless of which circuit they are on, and they just work.
Reduced my WiFi frustrations a lot.
Mike, South Africa. 16 November 2016
Couldn't be easier to set up. I was worried the connection would be intermittent as I live in an old apartment block with, presumably, old wiring, however they have performed just fine. I still need to test the speed of the connection (I'm pretty sure it'll be less than 500mbps, maybe even under 100) but it is still more than fast enough for my streaming needs between PC and PS4. The best part is my ping in online gaming is now much more stable than when I was using wifi.
Cornel, South Africa. 10 April 2014
Awesome product that is really easy to use.
Installation is a snap with it being plug and play. The only real drawback is that you will need a multi-plug. However, I think its a good trade off vs laying cables and RJ45 points.
Its a quick and easy solution that is also quite mobile.
Matthew, South Africa. 12 October 2016
Works as advertised, plugged them in, and within seconds my network was extended across my house - excellent speed
Ken, South Africa. 24 October 2016
100% recommend this product. Very happy with my purchase!
Michael, South Africa. 17 February 2015
The best purchase I have ever made. I bought these because I was having issues with my WiFi and wanted to have a wired network. These have worked so well that my friends and I have a running joke about Powerline adapters being the answer to all the problems in the world.
I even got a friend to purchase a set and its solved his issues buffering issues when watching Netflix on his PS3.
David, South Africa. 25 March 2016
Works fantastically, took about 20 sec to connect, the speed advertised by the product maker, i suppose is in a perfect world,
I don't get more than about 50mbps but that is from one end of the house to the other.
All in All this works great and is a solution if you want to use the wiring already in your house, this product works.
Daneel, South Africa. 15 May 2014
Great product. Follow instructions to the tee and no problems!! Works like a charm the first time. I am going to order me another pair for the rest of the rooms. No cabling - what a great concept!
David, South Africa. 14 July 2016
Marinus, South Africa. 11 August 2016
It works great and provides exactly what is promised.
Richard, South Africa. 5 January 2015
Works perfectly, even play online games using it with no effect on the speed or latency.
And you just plug it in and it works....
Adriaan, South Africa. 21 January 2015
Very easy to use. Literally "plug and play" - excuse the pun...
Just be sure to avoid surge and multi-plugs otherwise speed will be effected.
Best idea to solve the problem of router too far away from pc and not have to deal with wiring.
Lawrence, South Africa. 20 November 2014
Easy to setup, work as expected. Work great with the wifi version: http://www.takealot.com/tp-link-av500-2-port-wifi-powerline-extender/PLID28719943
Make sure you know these are the non-wifi extenders when you buy them, or you're gonna have a bad time, mkay.
Faadhil, South Africa. 10 November 2016
Works. very easy setup. speeds are good
Pierre, South Africa. 18 July 2014
I am very happy with my purchase. I will share some of my speed results in this review.
The best use for this is where thick concrete walls block your wifi. I had such a massive hassle with poor wifi reception. I was about to give up when I saw this on takealot, "I have credit so why not buy it?" I thought. I'm glad I did.
First off, whatever speed you see in the Windows utility, divide it by two to get your real one way speed, ie. your max download or upload speed.
Initially I got about 4 MB/s (40Mbit - utility showed 80mbit) until I plugged it into a different plug in my room(same circuit breaker). The amazing thing is, I now get a solid 75mbit (7.5 MB/s sustained file copy - utility shows 131Mbit) across two different circuits breakers over a distance of about 3 rooms and a concrete floor. This is really impressive considering the distance and walls I had to go through that was impossible for any wifi setup I tried, and believe me I tried a lot.
I did experiment with these however. Different circuits (seperate circuit breakers in your power distribution box) had very different results. So I will still have to caution you, your success may vary. The upside is on a the same wall plugs you get like 300mbit which theoretically is 150mbit speed and when I tested it I got a solid 10MB/s copy rate, limited by the 10/100 ethernet port.
So I'd say, get this if you want to extend your wifi with another router in a dead zone, or if you need to wire up your TV for streaming or whatever other use you might have. I'm quite impressed. Just don't expect more than about 40-80Mbit connections in most real life situations.
Robert, South Africa. 3 November 2014
Nice price! This works excellently in a house without UTP cables install. Remove all extra cables!
Tim Sterne, South Africa. 1 May 2016
Great product! Couldn't recommend it more.
Nadir, South Africa. 22 December 2014
It just worked. Paid the same amount for a netgear wifi dongle and that was disappointing. Connection is fast and stable even on HD streaming
Kashif, South Africa. 13 February 2015
Works excellently and easy to setup. I bought one of these to install for a non-techy person and they were able to do it no probs :)
Simon, South Africa. 17 June 2014
It works well. Setup was literally the press of two buttons. I've had the connection drop twice so far so I'm investigating whether these were the cause.
Pieter, South Africa. 29 March 2016
Fantastic product: It works very well, is reliable and easy to setup.
Pieter, South Africa. 4 February 2015
I have recently relocated to a new apartment and with the new layout, it is impractical to pull a network cable from where my router has to be (close to the Telkom socket) and where I want my PC. I considered Wifi, but despite my awesome router with duel Wifi, I would rather have this as a last resort.
Plugged my AV500's in and in mere milliseconds the network was connected, as if I had a direct cable! I haven't tested the speed yet, but so far everything works great.
I would recommend this.
Tim, South Africa. 22 February 2016
works ok.. easy to set up. Helps me stream HD to an Apple TV in a room with poor wifi reception.
Nowhere near the advertised speeds on the packaging, but does the job ok
thinus, South Africa. 19 October 2014
Fantastic product - plugged and played right out of the box. Even when I added a TL-WPA4220 to the mix
Tshepo, South Africa. 22 November 2016
Works as advertised. Easy to setup.
Andrew, South Africa. 22 November 2016
Simple, effective and easy to use.
Dennis, South Africa. 23 July 2014
The TP-Link AV500 Nano Starter kit is just what I needed. It was easy to install and worked right away. There were no difficulties at all.
Nicholas, South Africa. 10 November 2014
A great product. Just plug it in. Does just what we want in a part of the house we can't get decent WIFI reception :)
Chris, South Africa. 14 December 2016
Have an existing pair of Linksys powerline adaptors that are compliant with the homeplug standard. Plugged in these TP Link adaptors and the worked first time using the the network created by the main Linksys adaptor plugged into my router. Performance seems fine... DStv decoder and Xbox.
Mohammed, South Africa. 10 October 2016
Love it easy to setup
Martina, South Africa. 17 March 2015
With this product your devices gets connected via your power plug with LAN, no matter where the location of your Router is. I'm very happy with it and my clients too.
Raymond, South Africa. 6 October 2016
Absolute pleasure to use this product. It takes 1 minute to set it up and pair these devices, and once up and running the latency is cable standard and the transfer speeds stable and fast. Note that these devices DO NOT give off any wifi signal boost. From a design perspective, it uses a type C plug, so just this isn't going to fit in the round sockets. Also, according to the instructions, it works best if these devices are plugged into their own dedicated outlet, but who actually has that kind of luxury. Both my devices are on short extension leads, and the one is sharing power with my gaming PC, and there does not seem to be any problem with connection.
Jesse, South Africa. 22 January 2015
Works great for me! Used it to connect my pc to the router for better latency for my gaming and it worked liked a charm.
Marno, South Africa. 3 April 2015
Fantastic product. It has been losing the power line connection a few times over the last few days though, and I have to unplug the one on the receiving end to restore the connection. Only a problem when I que downloads during bed time, when I'm not able to monitor the line. Still, other than an Ethernet connection all the way from the source, it's the fastest and most stable network connection I've used
Brendan, South Africa. 3 June 2014
so useful, a must buy if wifi enabled modem is a little too pricey
Andrew, South Africa. 7 July 2014
These work, but are not without issues. I installed three units and was getting reported link speeds of between 170Mbps and 230Mbps between the first two, which I was quite happy with, but the third unit would, for love or money, not connect faster than 11Mbps. I went through all the trouble shooting steps, and eliminated all possible issues. Even if the two units were literally pluged into the same double wall socket, they would still only link up at 11Mbps. Reseaerch on the web seems to indicate I am not alone with this issue.
So all in all, they ARE easy to set up and ARE working, but the link speed is definitely not as advertised.
dayle, South Africa. 11 August 2014
great product at a great price
Rudolf, South Africa. 8 September 2014
happy wiht product, tooked it out the box and wihtout hassle less than 2 min had a network between the bedroom and the studyroom where the router is. And it wokrs fine from the mutli plug.
Irshaad, South Africa. 12 September 2014
Literally plug and play with NO configuration. Worked seamlessly wiyh my d-link router. Also, the device is plugged into a multiplug by the router with 6 other devices and worked well nonetheless! Performance is much better than wifi however movies still buffer :( performed exceptionally well initially, so I need to identify exact cause. Device is extremely small and well designed! Both adapters fit in the palm of my hand.
Santesh, South Africa. 24 October 2014
Works as intended. Clean design
David, South Africa. 16 November 2015
Fast delivery. Product works well. Thank you.
Gavin, South Africa. 13 March 2015
It is so easy to setup - just plug it in. It resolved my wireless range issues with absolutely no fuss. The powerline it is installed on is across 2 circuit breakers and actually goes to a separate small DB board. And the price from Takelot was very competitive.
Stephen, South Africa. 20 April 2015
Great product. Set up takes 2 minutes and the line speed is fast and holds a solid connection. Adding more devices to the network is very simple.
Deepak, South Africa. 31 May 2015
Absolutely awesome device, plugged in and on your way. No hassles, even the distance, no drop in speed. Definitely getting more of these for around the house.
Eden, South Africa. 27 May 2015
So ... I bought this on the off chance that it would work. It did. Beautifully. within half an hour of unwrapping these nifty little gadgets I was streaming YouTube through them ... ok so YouTube is not exactly HD but so far I have not had a single problem, and I am not a network technician or a hardware guru. Seeing as these plugs are two prong-a multiplug is what I used, make sure you don't use a surge protected plug at either end of this connection as that slowed things down.
Andrew, South Africa. 1 August 2016
It was plug & play... but not in a very demanding layout. Have not tested it at longer wiring distances. Performs to expectations.
Rivaj, South Africa. 30 June 2016
This was an easy plug & play...no having to connect to the device and configure. Simple button press on both devices to pair and you're ready to go.
Dustin, South Africa. 10 February 2016
So simple to use, have a LAN setup in 2min - the speed was impressive & could easily stream movies from my NAS device.
Pieter, South Africa. 28 October 2015
Great for a wireless replacement. For any potential buyers, this kit does come with 2 x 1m network cables. I bought extra because the kit didn't specify
Johan, South Africa. 14 March 2017
For streaming it works perfectly. There does seem to be some interference as expected. Files copy from around 11MB/s and sometimes drop to around 4MB/s.
Ludwig, South Africa. 16 March 2017
As someone who lay 10BASE2 cables with BNC connectors through the roof back in the days, I cannot overstate how great these things are. Forget about traditional WiFi extenders which lower the WiFi speed for everyone and cannot extend very far by design as it still has to connect back to the main access point via WiFi. This is what you want.
TP-Link even has a version with a builtin WiFi router to make this all-in-one (the TL-WPA4220, also available on Takealot). I didn't need this as I have a spare WiFi router with better specs.
I now have three of these scattered throughout the house. The furthest one is 30+ metres away from the internet hub and even on a separate distribution board. The other one streams movies to an Apple TV on the other side of a surge suppression adapter - something they warn you not to do! And they all *just work*. I never had an issue in 2 years.
Some folks dropped one star for not achieving the touted speed of 500 Mbps. My answer to that is that you can never trust the big number on any of these network devices anyway (the same goes for AC1900 WiFi and friends). That's just marketing. When the RJ45 connector only states 10/100 Mbps, that should tell you something. Unless you are on 100 Mbps fibre or need a very fast LAN, it shouldn't really matter.
Go and get this!
Michael, South Africa. 6 March 2017
The units are tiny and set-up is a breeze. Real world speeds are unfortunately not great ~30mbps/
Nick, South Africa. 18 April 2017
Works perfectly. The first plugnPlay that I have just plugged in and played
